I lost my phone over the weekend and want to get a new contract mobile phone. Previously I could not get one because I was not in Korea for long enough. I've been here 11 months now so I ought to be able to sort it out now. Can anyone guide me as to the process/documents/costs/options etc ?

Thanks
B

I lost my phone over the weekend as well.

Go to a KTF dealer. Bring your ARC. Also, you don't need to, but I would bring a passport as well. Bring your address written down on paper. Tell them you want a basic plan, or ask a K Friend to jot something down on paper explaining what you want. I paid 30 for a set up fee. 50 for a phone. and 16,000 per month, withdrawn from my checking account here. I get 2 hours of talk time and 120 text messages per month. Get a used phone, much cheaper. Try to get one with a Korean to English and vice versa dictionary. Good luck, any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks. Sounds easy enough. Are there any options where you get a free phone ? My friend mentioned something about that , but he's often confused .

LG offers foreigners cell plans. Not all KTF dealers will offer you a plan. Also LG usually gives you a pretty big discount on a phone. (I got mine for 30,000won brand new). You just need an ARC, and a Bank Account.

SK will offer you a contract for 200,000won deposit.

Thanks. That sounds good. Do the emarts and the like offer LG contracts too ? Or best to go to the specialised little stores ? I'm in the country and that can be a nightmare.

I don't know what about this thread makes playing an obnoxious ignorant teenager the appropriate form of response. But I'll check it out. I don't mind paying 30 a month if the phone is free and I get decent talk time.

My LG phone was free and brand new. I just paid 30,000 connection fee. I pay about 20,000 a month and get 18 hours LG to LG calls and 200 messages.
