Lookin to buy an MP3 player. I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to electronics and was wondering what was a good one to buy.

I heard there is a cheaper version of a sort of iPod?

I currently have a 256 MB MP3 player that gets quite a few laughs, and any help that would put me on the path to technological coolness would be appreciated? (Is there such a thing?)

Cowon D2 Very Happy

Any Korean mp3 player will do, iriver, cowon or samsung. It all depends on your budget and song collection.

Yes, it's Chinese. Oppo have been an OEM for many big companies. They know what they are doing. In recent years they've developed their own brand.

I bought one of their DVD players and it's impressive for the price. Much better than my old Denon which cost much more.

I haven't been disappointed with the MP3 player either. It just lacks some format capability (Ogg, Flac etc) for music. SQ is great (Wolfson chip inside) If you aren't fussed about OGG / Flac etc, at 120,000 won for 8GB, it is indeed nicely priced.

I have the Cowon D2 and it's awesome. I'd recommend picking up an 8GB SD card online. I bought my SD card from the states for like $50.

i'll give a 3rd props to cowon's D2. this thing is awesome.

for 140,000 won you get:

4gig of memory *upgradeable via the SD slot*
ybm/sisa dictionary
mp3 player
movie player
touch screen
fm radio
voice recorder
flash player (handy for subway maps, games, etc)
notepad
calculator
and a few more ...

great device and seriously useful.

Additionally, with the D2, there are constantly firmware upgrades. I get my firmware upgrades from iAudiophile. Oh, and the battery life if #1 in the biz, like 52 audio hours and 10 video hours per charge.
