Has anyone thought of putting one over on the overzealous Korean netizens? I mean like making up some urban legend garbage and watching them run with it over the mad cow nonsense. I know the Koreans have pretty much already done this but I haven't seen any westerners getting creative. Like making up a new strain like "Texas Mad Cow" and then totally passing off for real and seeing how far the jackarses would run with it before it was known to be a hoax.

I once told one of my university students to start a rumor. The rumor that I told him to start was that a bunch of first year university students went to a 노래방 and ordered a bunch of 'female drinking partners.' After the women arrived one of the them turned out to be one of the students' mother.

Remember that was just a rumor that I told him to start. By the way I told him this while teaching him the meaning of 'Urban legend.' Unfortunately I don't think he started the rumor. Crying or Very sad

Sounds promising though. It would be nice to compile a list of possible interesting rumors to spread. Can't think of any at the moment but am willing to give it a try. Wink

I was thinking that it would be hillarious to start a firestorm of protest against a ficticious strain or manifestation of mad cow. That would be priceless to see Koreans at rallies holding up signs protesting something that was totally bogus.
I heard that was tried in America once when an artist made up a fictitious book that was eventually banned by several watchdog organizations.

Tell your class that your mum sends you a suit case of meat every month. In fact all the American teachers you know do this. But that you often don't finish all the meat so you sell it to the local galbijim for a tidy profit.

How about the supposedly-true story in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle of the abatoir worker who got ground up and -- maybe this is incorrect -- sent out with the packaged beef?

sigh... netizens are easy to brainwash.

Someone with really good Korean skills should post about stupid nonsense just to mess with their heads and waste their time.

How about something along these lines...

There was a damning report issued on the safety standards of US beef being sold internationally in January of 2007. In order to draw attention away from it, the US put pressure on the Iraqi government to rush Saddam's execution.

He was executed on the day the report was released but no one paid attention to it, etc.

I am writing an anonomous letter to report something I've just learned that has really upset me. I can no longer remain quiet on this issue.
I am currently working at an Animal Shelter in New York city. We kill approximately 30 dogs a week. After the dogs are killed they are cremated. Two weeks ago out cremation equipment was turned off for no apparent reason. Now all our unclaimed dogs are put to sleep and frozen.

I generally don't ask questions but this just seemed a little fishy. The other day we got a strange phone call. The speaker did not speak English.
Also some letters have appeared that were not in English. They were not even written in the alphabet upon further inspection of the documents I concluding that they written in either Japanese or Chinese.

After double checking with some friends I did confirm that the language was known as Hangul or more commonly known as Korean. I also checked with an official document we had received I noticed a funny picture of a chubby Asian man. Upon further inspection I learned that small picture in the upper right hand side on an official document was North Korean dictator Kim Jung Ill.

I had also learned that George Bush has only just recentely lifted a trade Embargo on North Korea and was sending food aid. I decided to report my findings to the Humane Society only to find that my greatest fears where in fact true. These dogs are being put to sleep and shipped to North Korea to be used as food. Since these Animals are not being consumed in America no laws have been broken. I'm enraged by this. This is not what America is all about.
