Does anyone know how far Mok-dong is to Hongdae and Itaewon?
How is Mok-dong in terms of pollution/crowdedness/ etc?
Any other impressions of the area?
I might be moving there in August and I am trying to make a decision between a Hongdae school that pays less (400,000/month) and a Mokdong school.
Thanks! |

Mokdong is just across the river from Hongdae. Not far at all by taxi. Like $5 a ride. Less if you ride the bus.
Mokdong is a kind of classy area. Nice. You obviously don't want 'real Korea' ghetto cheap stuff, so it's a good area for you. And really not far at all from Hongdae. Mokdong has lots of western-style restaurants and so on. Go for it. Full of rich people too if you wanta hang with them. If I wanted to be in Hongdae every night then Mokdong would not be a bad fit at all. |

I live in Hongdae. I go to Mokdong quite frequently. By subway you would take the 2 all the way to Yeungdungpo Gu then transfer to another train, and take that maybe two or three stops. All in all, it takes no more than 20 minutes by subway. By taxi, you'll be there in 5 minutes.
Mokdong is a really nice area. A lot of people who live there are extremely wealthy.
The han river park, depending on where in Mokdong you will be, is close, but even closer is the Anyan chon, it's a stream with running paths on both sides with excercise stations spread throughout the area. It's really nice. Take advantage of it if you go there. |

I used to live quite close to Mokdong station. I liked the area. Probably half an hour or less to Hongdae. Quite a few bars and restaurants in Mokdong itself, but not really Western style so much. It's quite an up-scale area. You also have a Hyundai department store in the area and a Homever.
Oh, handy for immigration, too. |

I live in Mokdong and the other posters are totally correct. It's also relatively close to Bukhansan if you enjoy a bit of hiking. I live near Sinjeong Station and a taxi to Hongdae is about 7000/8000W. If you lived near Omokgyo, I guess it would be 5 or maybe even 4!
Also, it's really close to Olympic Park, if you want to watch some footy (that may be soccer to you, I dunno). Go for it, get in touch once you get here if you want. |

I live in Mokdong and the best way to describe it is full of the Korean equivalent of uptight honkies. Not alot of culture here, I try to get to other neighborhoods as often as possible. I cant find any good restaurants here either. But... it's a nice place to live and convenient to get to other, cooler places easily. |
