British Student Writes Nothing but Expletive on Exam, Gets Credit for Spelling
Monday, June 30, 2008 FOX NEWS

LONDON A British high school student received credit for writing nothing but a two-word obscenity on an exam paper because the phrase expressed meaning and was spelled correctly.

The Times newspaper on Monday quoted examiner Peter Buckroyd as saying he gave the student who wrote an expletive starting with f, followed by the word "off" two points out of a possible 27 for the English paper.

"It would be wicked to give it zero because it does show some very basic skills we are looking for, like conveying some meaning and some spelling," Buckroyd was quoted as saying.

"It's better than someone that doesn't write anything at all."

Buckroyd said the student would have received a higher mark if the phrase had been punctuated. : ) : )

He said the expletive was used in 2006 by a student in response to the question: "Describe the room you are sitting in." ----------

Glad to see the teacher has an open mind in this excessively PC world.

Just wondering.. should the same student should be asked "Describe your high school experience?" he'd reply with the same two-word obscenity.
His future looks bright.... : )

You know, I'm glad he gave him 2 of 27; I had a student who would not write a thesis, could not write a proper sentence and could not write a conclusion. The red pen was used extensively-he got 3 of 30, but it wasn't morale boosting comments.

It is quite clear the examiner is having a bit of fun. To be fair though a lot of brats don't even write anything.

Love that fact the kid didn't even put an exclamation mark.

Ah! the British education system. Surely the envy of the world.

I did that when I was 16 and on a GCSE biology exam

Various anwsers on photosynthesis, plants and shit like there were:

'eff off'

'who effing cares'

'eff you MOFO'

'I'm outta of here soon - so EFF OFF!'

I got a 'U' - and it didn't make the papers either! Evil or Very Mad

PS: I was expelled two days later - they called me 'a rebel without a brain'

The thing is, the way some questions are worded in those exams are pathetic. It makes you NOT want to answer them.

I blame the system, not the parents.

I give 2 points out of 10 to my students for answers on written tests for reading comprehension if they write "I don't know." correctly punctuated, spelled and capitalized. 1 of 10 if they make a mistake. They are at the most basic level though.
