Is there anywhere in S. Korea that has a feel similar to that of Portland, Or.? That is: a lot of greenery; friendly people, clean(er) air and a lot to do.
From what I've been able to see, it appears that Bundang might be a close match. Agree or disagree? Other suggestions?
Cheers. |

The main thing I can suggest is, either move to Seoul or stay on the west side of Korea. You won't get a lot of greenery in the city, but you will enjoy your life a lot more.
If you do move out to the east side, be prepared to travel long distances if you want to get anywhere decent.

Bundang might be as close as you can get. You might also consider Daejon, around the research institutes in Daedok. (Daejon is 2 hours south of Seoul by bus.)
For a milder winter climate, think about Busan or another south coast city. |

This would be Gangwon-do. Don't expect the friendly people part to ever compare to any place in the West nor a lot for you to do outside the apartment and job. It has loads of greenery, fresh air, and less extreme people, but it's all mostly the same thing when it comes to people and cities in Korea. A small town is a tiny version of a city, not a rustic more traditional styled place. Lots of outdoor activities are available in Gangwon, but not as much for you to do as it's Korea; not a western country. Prepared to be isolated and independent. Seoul is the only place with lots to do. |
