Dear Teacher,

I am Frederek Sigvard from stockholm, Sweden and work as an Engineer at Chevron Oil Lagos, Nigeria. My wife and Kids recently joined me in Nigeria; she is Swedish and can't speak English. I am seriously seeking for the services of an English Teacher.

I have reviewed you resume online and would like to know if you would be able to come and teach my wife and four kids Ludvig, Helmer, Synnove and Arvid English most importantly is my wife; She would be attending an interview at a bank here in Nigeria soon. I want to know if you can come by July 2008 to teach my family English.

I am willing to offer you US$6,500 per month with health insurance and return ticket. I have a twin duplex which I and my family occupy one of them at the moment, and if you accept this offer, you would be staying in the second Duplex. I will pay for your airfare cost if you accept the offer.

Regards
Fred (+234 708 728 6586)

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in my family. Your resume was gotten from www.worknplay.com website. The duration would be probably 12 months so that they will know every bit of the language. please re forward your resume to me asp so that I and my wife will have review of it before making the final conclusion, though she doesn't ready English funny enough.

I will take care of your accommodation and your airfare.

Thank you

Fred.

Note he got it from Work N Play - your personal details aren't safe there.

Anyway I have replied with the following.

Hey Fred. Can you send me a photo of your wife please? I do not teach ugly women as I find it rather off putting when I have to put a paper bag over their heads during the lessons and the after lessons cuddling.

Being Swedish and not speaking English does not happen.......Also 99% chance of her being buxom, blonde and shaved. 1% chance of flat, ginger and jungle type overgrownness.

I'm ignorant about this sort of thing so please excuse if these are really dense questions.

I know it's a complete scam, but don't understand the logistics of it.
How does the rest of the scam play out?
How/when do the scammers benefit, i.e at what point does money get sent?
Would somebody really saddle kids with those names? Razz

It's when they get you to send a copy of your passport , some other ID and Banking information. Next thing you know you have a debt from a shady bank and/or a criminal record.

Yes I had an engineer from Chile emial me and offer $6000.00 US a month to teach his family English. He lived in Logos also. I think what happens is that eventually they ask for some advanced "good faith" gesture in the form of about $400.00 and thats where the scam is. Haven't people figured out that Nigeria is just synonomous with scam?

My younger brother did a beauty last year. At his house in Manchester he wanted to have a tree cut down in the back yard so it'd get more sun. He phoned up a guy, he came round checked it out, said he'd do it the next day, my brother gave him a 100 quid then the next day..........no show! We're never going to let him forget this.

These pay up front things are so funny. In England there's a list apparently that you go on, I think it's called the 'Suckers list'. If somebody sends you through this scam mail asking for a fiver or something and you send it back then you get put on this list and then you will be inundated with scam mail. I remember hearing about one person who was getting anywhere between 40-80 letters a day because they'd been dumb for a second or maybe their whole life, one of the two.

Dear Fred,

I notice that two of your children have ginger hair. I have heard that it is caused by a contagious disease. I am quite concerned by this and really don't want to suffer from Gingervitis as well. Will you be able to provide hermetically sealed teaching area?

Best Regards

I received the exact same email from good ol' Fred a few days ago. I always wish I have time to mess with them.

I haven't posted my email anywhere..wonder where he got it
