Hello:
Do you know of any non-native English teachers in Korea? Id like to try teaching English in Korea. Problem is, I am Filipino without an American or British or Australian accent. I am brown. Do you think its a hopeless case for me to get hired? I have looked at the ads and everyone just wants to hire a native English speaker. I have a BA but I dont have a teaching certificate. I have some experience teaching English to Korean teens when I was still in college. There are so many Koreans (mostly teenagers and in their 20s) who come to the Philippines to learn English. This just makes me think if they come here to the Philippines, why cant I come to Korea and teach them?

I believe in order to get an E2 teaching visa you must have a passport from a country where English is the first official language. Obviously, these are USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
If you don't have citizenship in one of these countries, you're out of luck I think. |

I worked with a guy who was a non-native speaker. But he was european descent and reasonably good looking so I think they (the parents) were able to overlook the accent thing.

Yeah no passport, no dice.
FYI most Filipino woman work in the "entertainment" industry over here...so you might want to think of another country...maybe Thailand or China? |

Hello, Isabelle!
I've met two Filipino English teachers.
I don't know how one of them happened to come here,
but the other one married a Korean man in a Moonie mass wedding. |
