The office at A-Meat in Siheung-dong, western Seoul, was in a frenzy of activity yesterday morning.
...
Weve been getting orders from all parts of the country, even from Jeju Island, said Park Jong-min, a manager at the company.
...
Members of Agora, an Internet discussion board on Daum, have been actively criticizing importers and restaurant owners who sell or plan to sell U.S. beef. Many postings include details on how to stop them from selling.
One posting reads, It wouldnt be illegal to hand out anti-U.S. beef fliers in front of the restaurants, correct?
Other members suggested that they put up an online list of all importers, retailers and restaurants that sell U.S. beef.
One owner of a company that is planning to sell U.S. beef said, If I receive a specific threat by them [Agora], I will immediately call the police.
Lee Geon-haeng, a lawyer said, If by posting the phone number, address or name of a company that sells U.S. beef causes that company any sort of specific loss in sales, those who posted such information could be punished by law for disturbing business operations. |

I think many won't actually tell their customers that the beef they're selling at restaurants and butcher shops is actually American beef while pocketing the nice profits. At least for the time being. |

I'm sure this will happen with a few spotty restaurants, but I suspect it will not be a wide spread trend. Any business caught doing this would insure their own painful death.
I think it is more likely that restaurants will play by the rules and Korean pocketbooks will dictate the market. |

Beef is still way too expensive in this country. I'll stick to eating Samgyup sal and roast chicken until the price goes down. |

Korean beef comes from old cattle and old milk cows. |

I hope the jerks do try that stunt and the restauranteurs do call the coppers. Also, the restauranteurs should sue the daylights out of the ignoramuses for "causing damage to business." |

Isn't there a new law that will require nearly all restaurants to disclose where the beef originated from on the menu?
We'll see how many will actually follow through with this |

One of my adjuma students told me how the government would deal with such potential problems. According to her, there will be a kind of "beef" paparazi (sp?). They will dine out and report any mislabeling. If my memory serves me correctly, I think there is even a reward given.
If true, I personally think this will lead to a whole new sort of problems. I can only imagine citizens demanding to inspect kitchens for labeling on boxes.
God, what a mess. |

I'm gonna order some beef from this place as soon as I get to Seoul. Good on them. I'll support them. |

How do they enforce any of these 'regulations' in this country? The whole regulatory system here is dirty from the top down. |

Correct. But you can get your ass sued into oblivion for disruption of their business. And if your action hurts their "reputation"? Kiss the financial future of your kids goodbye.

I hope someone is allowed to publicly sue a netizen into the ground, and that the monetary devastation of the family makes headlines. We need to see some of that, and parents will start putting some serious smack-down on their kids out of fear of losing the family fortune to their stupidity. It's bad enough to have a lazy-ass child who can't get a job and chain-smokes while playing Starcraft in a PC Bang all day. It's much worse that the same useless child could cause them to lose everything. |

KH headline today states that "U.S. Beef is Flying Off The Shelf."
There is also the other article about the violent protest organizations that are under fire from the Feds right now.
This place never ceases to amaze me . |
