I am back home, and applied for a charge card at a local store. Guess what? Someone has been listed as using one of my aliases, along with my social security number (not sure how they got that) somehow. My alias name came up on their list instead of my real name attached to my SSN, and I had to show them different forms of ID to prove I was who I was. Am now in the process of finding how this all happened, and making sure everything will be OK and that my identity hasn't been stolen or renamed somehow.

I always use fake aliases and different birthdays to apply for sites like myspace and facebook.

This is why.

Identity theft.

Not only do I use false info all the time, but I just don't join those sites. Not only are they data harvesting for high-level demographic targeting, profiling, etc, but they are the ultimate phishing grounds.

Call me paranoid, but at least I'll never be called a victim.
