| I seem to recall that after a large increase in our student population, we had a Curly, Moe, Larry, Shemp, Harpo, Chico, Groucho and Zeppo. |

Ok. I guess I should finally respond to this thread. At my previous college, in our childrens program, I had a boy about 8 whose name was Fart. That is how he said it. I know they have the Simpsons in Korea (but never on any channels I can get ), so I thought he was Bart. So, just in case I asked him if he knew what his name meant. He said yes and then made some farting noises to prove it wAS A GREAT STUDENT TOO. After one year he sounded native. |

I just reread my post. In case there was any confusion, I meant his English was getting to sound native, not his farts |

| I don't know who hands out the names in my school. I have 1 boy named Polly and another boys name is Claire and I have a girl named Pogo. Talk about being able to mess with their minds. |

Today the Korean helper teacher told me one of the boys wanted to be called "Mango" from now on, because his real name is Min-Hwa. WTF??? Use your real name if you're that bothered, not a bloody fruit! Not that my protestations changed anything... |

Never had an odd name at my acedemy. I however subbed today at an elementary school...
at this school I met Bang-Bang and Sweetie!!!
No kidding! Bang-Bang was a nut and Sweetie was true to her name, and honestly one of the cutest kids I've ever met!

| Worked at a hogwon a while back, and was quite surprised to see theboys called "Bonzi", "Jamal", "Juwan", "Antwan", "Dion". There were two new kids in the class, so I promptly called them "Le Baron and Theophilus" |

I refuse to give mine normal English names and only reluctantly use the one's that they have already been given. They're not superman where you change identities. When they ask me for English names, I give them the most screwed up names I can think of. examples:
Dumb and Dumber
Scarecrow
Mr Go-Faster
Birthday Girl
Mr Chubbes, as in chubby
Names they already had:
Mirror Princess
Franchesca
Luis
Smile, I tried to tell him Smiley, but he wouldn't change it. |
