Instead of staying by the consulate I stayed in Hakata (about three subway stops away (buy an all day subway pass for 500 yen).
The name of the hotel was the Khaosan Fukuoka http://www.khaosan-fukuoka.com/
cost 3500 yen for a single room 2500 yen for dorm. Free computers (with skype) free coffee and a kitchen. If you stay here make sure you check out the ramen place around the corner, one of the best meals I have had in my life. The is also an indian place at the subway station (damn good curry only problem was a little light on the meat and you have to order rice on the side).
I found fukuoka really boring, much preferred osaka |

Me too. I was really disappointed with Fukuoka for nightlife anyways. Beautiful, beautiful city though. That beach in Fukuoka might be real interesting in the summertime though. |
