|
|
Hello,
I am interested in going to teach for CDI in Seoul this coming September.
I was wondering if anyone who is currently working there or who has worked there recently has any comments - positive or negative - about the institute as to whether or not I should make the investment to go out there. |

Give it a try yourself. It doesnt work.
The search is broken, and you have been here long enough to know that
Sheesh.

I guess the thing is: why did you have to start off by being mean? Instead of making a big picture pointing to the "search" function that you already know has a lot of issues, why wouldn't you just say:
Hey! The search button doesn't work if you put in a long string of words, but try typing in CDI and see if that works. Cheers!

Dittos. Doesn't cost you anything to be nice. As for CDI, I have a ton of emails I've written people giving them the lowdown on my experience, which was very positive. PM me and I'd be more than happy to forward them along. I was there in 2006 . . .

Well, I've used the search option and didn't get a whole lot of useful info, so I'll resurrect this and we'll see if people respond instead of debating the merits of the search function here at Dave's.
So, CDI wants to hire me, and pay me as a newbie 2.5-2.6. Apparently that's because I'll only get 5 vacation days the whole year and no sick days. That sucks, but it is about $500 more a month or $6k a year, and that's nice I suppose.
Any real feedback on working at CDI? I know alot of it has to do with the school you work at since the company is so large. Problem is they might put me at a brand new school so I won't be able to get feedback from the teachers that are already there. I'm relying on you, brave Dave'sers.
PM me if you prefer. |

This was Wario's first contact with recruiters. I know a few things, according to their pdf.
They use surveillance cameras, rationalized by being useful for classroom discipline.
The pay is low in their offer, unless you're expected to dicker with them?
ALL classes are conducted in english, no korean allowed. No co-teachers though, you're the main show all day, everyday. Which includes attendence, grades, exams, parent reports. (my question was does this get done with software, and is it operator/teacher friendly?)
They have two housing options, 1) they provide an officetel or a villa; and 2) you find your own and they pay an allowance. So at least you can move out on your own after awhile. The literature starts to explain the real estate process, and it's going to cost some money.
I liked their philosophy on Globalization but came to realize that this is a chain, the MickeyD's of Education? Wasn't sure what to make of that as I'm not a big fan of Corporations. But I guess they're filling a niche. |

CDI don't offer health insurance, pension and will make your time there very stressful. Don't take it. |

The whole arrow thing is a bit funny, though, especially since it was meant to point out that there is a ton of bad stuff written here about CDI.
Your good advice could have been written under his picture, however. Then he could have been funny and nice. |

Add to the lack of vacation days (10 days short by my reckoning), no pension and no medical, working on Red Day holidays... that's a whole lotta laws being broken. Why exactly do people work for such a company with no scruples? |
