i'm going to take a wild guess that this has been answered to death, but if you know how crap the search function is, hopefully someone will take pity on me.

what should i bring to the medical checkup? my coworker told me just my passport, but his soju-rotted brain was hazy.

also, am i supposed to pay anything? i don't even have enough money for next month's rent.

thanks in advance.

You must be new to Korea.

You have 90 days to get your ARC. You have to submit your medical including a drug test and HIV/AIDS test, so this must be done before getting your ARC.

Don't have money yet? Wait until you get paid, then go, you have 90 days.

Yes, bring your passport, you don't have a Korean ID yet (ARC).

Have marijuana in your system? Immigration doesn't need a marijuana test, but many hospitals still check for it in their drug test and put the results on your med form. Have it in your system from outside Korea? You have 90 days to get your test and ARC. Have it in your system from smoking in Korea? You are fuckng stupid, quit smoking.

Paying for it or not might depend on your school ... I know that I have heard of many people needing to pay for it ... But I was personally lucky enough that my hagwon paid for it. I think most people have needed to pay for it. But it might be worthwhile even in this case to ask your school if they can pay for it now and then take it out of your next pay. While you do have 90 days to do it there are lots of things which are easier to do when you actually have your ARC so I would personally recommend doing the medical exam and then getting your ARC as soon as you can after you arrive. You also need to have your ARC to get your Medical Insurance booklet.

Along with your passport you need to bring an additional passport sized photo.

Unless you have arranged something with your school, you will pay for the exam.

I've never brought photos to any of my medical exams in Korea. But you will need to bring some for your ARC.

When was the most recent time that you did the medical check to submit to immigration?

I know this for certain - photos are now required for the public school medical exam. I just re-signed and was 'blindsided' by this fact at the hospital.

Ditto. In fact while you're in Korea you should always carry a couple of passport-sized photos in your wallet. It doesn't matter if they're three years old, photoshopped, and not verified by any studio.

Definitely true about bringing a couple of photos with you. One of them is included on the report that they give you to take to immigration. Mine was stuck on and then embossed as an extra security measure.

To answer your question...

No, they don't ask for an immunization certificate or record of any kind.

I didn't take a photo to my medical exam. They just looked at my ID card and charged me 50,000 and sent me on my way for the exams.
