Were there more massive anti-beef protests, or was it all just a lie? No 500,000 people?

estimates range from 35,000 to about 50,000. not a bad turnout for a rainy day, but nowhere near the desired million the organizers once predicted.

This article claims 50,000. That's still a hell of a lot of people.

I wish that the articles focused a little more the spread of misinformation here regarding the issue.

The organizers were planning on a million.

I think this is a good sign. Also, 50000, part of that number is counter protesters.

The Church groups have no shame. Like all the famous people a month or two before, they obviously decided that they should get their "face time" in too. Pretty strange topic for vegetarian Buddhist monks to be protesting....

Don't tell us, tell the media. Here's a good place to start:

I stayed there for a while, there were a lot but nowhere near 500,000, I would say 10,000, maybe 30,000 if you counted all the people who came through, but the crowd never got that big. All of the numbers I've seen were really inflated, everyone fit sitting down with space to walk around within two square blocks.

the counter-protest was incredibly weak, there were several groups. LiNK had maybe 30 people in their "funeral procession" there were a few other groups but all were small. No conflicts either while I was there.
