So who here was recruited by Korea connections? Were you satisfied with the process? What kind of questions were you asked during the interview with them?
Also, just curious for those who've been to the SMOE orientation... what kind of stuff do you do at the orientation? Is it just seminars all day long? Or are there "activities" for us... like presentations, group work, etc?
thanks in advance |

For most schools the actual job interview is not done by the recruiter but by the school or in the case of SMOE etc positions by the program itself. Often the recruiter does an interview which really just tells them whether or not to pass your application onto the school itself (ie whether or not they can recommend you as a potential employee) but that interview does not get you the job itself. They are just the link point between you and your actual employer. It is also important to remember that your actual contract is not signed by the recruiter but by the school. So any promises made by the recruiter must be confirmed by the school and included in your contract. |

I'm going with Korea Connections for SMOE, and they've been excellent.
I got the job with SMOE and about to send in the contract and stuff.
I never received any crap from them or fake BS from them.
One Big tip, when replying to emails, make sure you redo the title of the email to reflect the request and put your name. I used to simply reply to their emails without changing the title and they were ignored or missed by them every single time until I did it the right way. Trust me on this! |

Korea Connections is a reputable recruiter. But, remember, they're a recruiter. They are not your friends and do not work for you.
As icicle has implied - an interview with a recruiter is basically meaningless and only serves to assure the recruiter you're still beathing and speak English.
I can't 'speak' to SMOE orientation (I'm EPIC). In general, public (SMOE, GEPIC, EPIC etc.) program orientations are useful for newbies to K-land, and a complete & utter waste of time for people who have some experience. |

I used KC and they were fine--answered all my questions and were quick to respond. As for the orientation...well, I thought it was boring and unhelpful. I did meet some cool people. |

I used KC and Jay has been excellent! He always answered my questions within 1 day. He assisted me through the process very smoothly.
You first interview with KC, and if they think you are a good potential applicant, they will pass your package on to SMOE. Most applicants they recommend are accepted into the program. KC has been the best recruiter I've had so far. |

it's good to hear good/decent comments on KC.
So basically korea connection interviews to make sure we speak english, right? Because I realize SMOE is really what will get us the job.
Still, anyone have any examples of questions korea connections asks during the interview? :)

I had a very different experience with Jay. Granted it wasn't for a PS job, but very little he told me about my school turned out to be so. Just make sure that it is in fact an SMOE contract you're signing otherwise you might find yourself in a rural 1 horse town when "Seoul" was what was promised. |

When you signed the contract, didn't you see the name and address of the school?
Indeed I have signed a SMOE contract and interviewed at SMOE office. I am 100% sure I will work for SMOE.
KC will ask you typical questions that any other recruiter will ask. Why do you want to teach in Korea, how do you feel about culture shock, what makes you think you're a good candidate, blah blah blah |
