|
|
excited to bring home a new pair of speakers for my nb, small yet compact, they use an ac cord or the usb interface, I hooked them up and put in a dvd.
about 1/2 hour into the film an alert pops up that there was a device (the speakers) overloading the power and was going to be disabled.
of course I disconnected them immediately.
but wtf?? why would this happen - ? anyone know? do I take them back? what's the point of having them if I can't watch a dvd at the same time?
the power cord isn't that long and having the usb interface for power is supposed to be part of the convenience - or so I thought.
can anyone help explain this? are they just sh*t?? |

They're pulling too many amps of power even if they are 5 volts which is what USB puts out. Get an extension cord to plug them into the wall outlet and you should be fine. |

Don't blame the messenger. Seems like the speakers you bought aren't compliant to age-old standards. |

Did you really expect that a USB plug could power your big new speakers??
I use a USB powered speaker on my computer. It's 2 watts! That's about all the power a USB can put out. A USB socket is not the same as a mains socket. |

but they aren't big speakers - they are made for a nb - !!
maybe you have seen them - white - are attached to a long connector and fold up - the speakers themselves are about 3 inches long, 1 1/2 wide.
very good quality sound - I listened to several others first and was impressed by their quality vs. size
ok, I've scanned the booklet - it's in K and I don't read K - but it is clear the electrical draw is 5 V - so if it's the same - is it the wattage that's different and causing the problem?
I'm seriously thinking of returning them - as I said, the point of buying this pair wasn't just the sound but the fact they were supposed to draw power thru the usb and not another power cord.
there are a lot of similar products out which do the same - is this something perhaps we should be aware of that's not good?
I'm thinking it is. oh well, live and learn. at least it didn't blow my nb - !! |

I wasn't spelling doom and gloom...maybe the voltage regulator is cheap. Makers often cut corners on these kinds of things. I mean, a sustained 5v. over the usb probably wasn't factored in to the equation. |
