A friend just informed me that Costoco does not yet have any American beef for sale.

I can verify that Costco is not selling US beef at this moment. I was at the Costco in Yangpyung on Wednesday. Most of the beef is Australian beef with some Korean beef on the side.
I didn't want to go home empty handed so I bought several kilos of various Australian steaks and hamburgers. Their version of NY strip steak is very good.
I tried to ask the butcher, in my limited Korean, when US beef would be sold at Costco but he didn't know. |

I can also verify this. I was at Costco in Ilsan on Saturday and it's call paper-thin Australian Kangaroo steaks.
No sign of US beef at Costco.
BUT, Costco does have A-1 steak sauce and Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce for those who want to PREPARE for the feast to come. |

whats the problem? Aussie beef if first class beef! unless the american beef is gonna be 30% cheaper than the Aussie beef, no reason to complain, with Aussie beef you are getting the highest quality beef in the world! |

Well, the Scottish Angus beef farmers would argue with you. As would the Japanese Kobe beef farmers........the guys who massage the cows and feed them beer.
I'm happy with the Aussie beef from Costco, but I definitely don't think it's the best in the world. |

He's referring to the world you live in now... K-world
last time I got some Aussie beef from the butcher, a 2-3cm frozen slab went bad in my fridge in about 36-48hours... that's some pretty nasty crap if you ask me. |

From what I've heard, they just started allowing American beef back into Korea. The first shipment soldout pretty quickly.
Also any place you go that serves beef (resturants) now needs to certify where the beef comes from. I believe that new law went into effect July 1st. |
