Well, not exactly, but...

the current system -- E2, D2/4, E7, etc.. it's great for people who first come to Korea. It's a bit restrictive, but overall, not too difficult to stay within the rules.

However, those like me who have been here for a good number of years, have networked all through all levels of Korean society, and, because of this now have all kinds of opportunities, what are my options? right now I'm on a D-2 with an S-3 addition. While it's nice that they've now permitted students to have part time jobs, I'd really like to do far more than I'm legally permitted.

What are my options? Only one! Get married to a Korean lady.

I find it amusing that in being very restrictive to foreigners coming in and living in Korea, the one avenue that is 'open' is diluting the Han race.

Don't get me wrong, marriage is too much of a hassle to go through if you don't actually love the gal you're with... and to get married for a visa is pretty silly... but it has sort of put the idea in my mind. Maybe it's time to start looking for my one true love! Shocked

Maybe the Korean government wants white guys to marry more Korean women so that Korea will have more connections and support from the world.

Not only that, but the Korean wives will get half of the money upon divorce right?

If you want to marry someone just because of a visa, then you are really stupid.

You can have a lot more fun and earn a lot of money as a young single person in Korea. You don't have to marry to do that.

I have known quite a few married individuals in Korea who really miss being single. Not speaking of myself.

I'm sure they do that on purpose. They want you there teaching for a few years but they don't really want you to put roots down.

For that I expect nature to take it's course, as I will hardly have much influence from this distance. That part is done.

I know the OP is just being polemical, with a slight tint of selfish, and yet I don't want to dampen the spirit of entertaining hypothetical questions..

.. but if you truly are thinking of ruining someone's life for a few years of what - a second job? - then I do truly hope the Korean government can make Dave hand over your id and monitor the computers you're writing from so they can id you and blacklist you from *ever* getting a marriage visa.

I furthermore hope that your post is picked up by Koreans and translated into Korean on every Korean dating website there is.

Why is it that some of us think green card marriages are stupid but simultaneously think this is brilliant?

Are you that desperate to stay in Korea that you are going to lock yourself in a marriage so you can stay in the country?

I am sorry.....this sounds pathetic!

One of my friends did it for the exact same reason......

.....I hope you guys know that adultry is a prosecutable crime in Korea where the guilty party can be imprisoned for what to 2 years if the spouse decides to report it to the police.......and it doesn't have to be the spouse to make a report, it can be anyone who knows the person is married..........

Marriage is all good if you love the person, but to do it to get an ARC, it sounds abit foolish and cowardly..........

I would have more respect for a person who would either come and work on a tourist visa or use fake documents to get a job..........at least more than those fucking squeamish pricks who go get married to get an F2 or an F5.........at least the prior person has more balls....
