I was told by a recruiter being 44 years old( very young looking) I would not have a problem gaining employment in the public school system. Is this true? I have six years classroom experience as a substitute teacher. Cool

Being too young (under 28 ) can often be a bad thing if you're trying to get a university job, but not always. This can be due to a few reasons, such as that they may be afraid you'll become involved with students, or because many of the army-returnee male students will be close to your age and find it difficult to accept.

People in their 40s should have no problem landing a public school job, given that everything checks out.

I find it interesting that every poster that mentions age & is over 40 always, without exception, puts 'very young looking' in brackets after their age.

Lots of it happening in the 'what age do you date' thread especially.

So there are no over 40 FTs in Korea that actually look their age (or, god forbid, older) then? Is that statistically possible?

sure it's possible - we're hired partly based on appearance and if the school figures we don't look that old who's to know?

however, I've seen quite a few teachers my age and older who DO look their ages - but as for me - I've been told many times for many years, actually most of my adult life, that I don't look my age. it's even caused problems sometimes but am not going into it here.

it's ok in some respects, but in others not so ok. I've earned my age and am not ashamed of it. I'm glad I don't look that "old" but all the same, well, there's nothing wrong with being whatever age one is, after all.
