I'm thinking of no longer teaching anything that Korean teachers can teach better than me. This would include practically all English grammar and indeed anything from a Korean English textbook, as well as most silly ESL games. The only things that we as native English speakers can teach better are unstructured natural conversations, unstructured writing and information about Western culture and our home countries.

Unfortunately most ESL textbooks don't cater to this very well and have fill-in-the-blanks type exercises, prepared conversations supported by CDs and such like. Does anyone know of sources of lesson plans that we could get across but Korean teachers couldn't possibly hope to. I think it is important we go this route in order to show the Koreans exactly why they need us.

About the statement of Kteachers needing us.

Kteachers don't feel they need us at all and if it were up to them we wouldn't be around cause it's a pain for them to have us, etc.

I wonder if you have ever had the privilege of watching an "English" class taught by the Kteachers? This is what happens: Kteacher stands at front and speaks in K, Kstudents recite or read. The classroom is deadly silent. Everyone is nodding off. There's no PPT, conversation, nothing. Just a Korean lecture about English.

Just by you being there, showing them a different way of teaching and learning is enough. Just the fact that you speak English to them without adding en eeeeeeee or uhhhhh is enough.

If the Kteachers are making you feel useless ask to watch some of their classes, after you'll probably have a different opinion about your value.
