How much do you need to survive for one week in the Phuket area? I just want to go to the beach, do some hiking, and stay in a cheap place.
I'm just trying to figure out how much money I need to bring. |

When I do that kind of trip I usually budget about US$100 per day. It is usually overkill but if I find something interesting I don't have to forgo it just because I'm broke or don't have any extra cash.
A vacation really sucks if you run short of cash and if you have extra money you can always bring it home with you. It doesn't go bad or simply vaporize if you don't use it.

I was staying at the Phuket Erawon hotel for $10 per day and then eating great seafood for like $20 per day so it's still cheap to do Phucket. This was in high season during January to add. |

that's good to hear, it would be nice to get away with like, 30-40$ per day. |

Reconsider going to Phuket, the place is a shit hole. And if you must go avoid Patong beach it's just like Pattaya but twice the price. Do not take tuk-tuk's but rent a bike at the airport otherwise you will be totally ripped off wherever you go.
Krabi's nice go there instead. |

Think $40 is pretty do-able. I'm sure some will say $30 is too, but I think that might be going a little too stingy these days. |

yep 40-50 a day is easily doable. That would factor in a taxi here and there, night-time beverages and maybe a door charge here or there. |

sounds good, i don't drink that much anyways (at my size, two beers do it) and food seems cheap.
i'm also saving some dough to go scuba diving, that would be interesting. |

Another very easy way to save money is food. Never eat in a western style restaurant but always go where the Thai's eat, which generally is on the street but many larger sized supermarkets & malls have cheap foodcourts too. You can get a dish for 25-35 baht.
Might help to memorize a couple of your favourite dishes in Thai... |
