I'm just wondering what the situation is with regards to what/how much you can take on a ferry.
Is it similar to the airline rules, i.e regs about liquids or anything like that? Is there security screening for Swiss Army knives/scissors etc?
Can I take fresh fruit/food with me?
Thanks for any info. |

I took a ferry to Tsushima last year. Sorry, can't fill you in on luggage restrictions.
Leaving via Busan ferry terminal, you do pass through a normal immigration check. I cannot remember my bags being scanned - but I was having to open my case EVERY time I passed immigration (Korea and Japan!). The Japanese immigration ensured that you do not have fresh foods (meat, veges, fruit etc) being bought into the country. Posters were everywhere. I know some teachers bought Japanese mandarins home ok.
Otherwise, the only things that stuck in my mind were:
1. I was stopped by an undercover police officer (flashed his badge at me) and questioned about my stay on the island... I assume it was because I was the only waegookin in a large tour group (grrr). I was very embarrased by this in front of all the teachers at my school
2. Very lax in the Busan terminal coming back. Customs officer only interested in questioning me about dates I arrived and left Australia (6 months before)... which I did not think had much to do with a ferry trip to Tsushima. He gets a bit testy, because I do not know why he is asking this and I remind him I have just travelled to Tsushima. I have 2 questions for you (he barked). Turns out he had not seen an e-passport before...
Have a good trip! |

Thanks Matilda, very helpful.
Has anyone used their Korean bankcard to withdraw money in Japan, i.e did it actually work, were there horrendous charges or anything like that? |
