What on Earth is this about? Let's not go into disrespecting the dead and all that jazz. Let's not go there. Does making fun of the dead fit some new definition of being civil? I thinketh not. Where goest thou with such thoughts?

We thank thee for understanding...

Is Jesse Helms fair game though?

No, that is not fair game as it is uncivil behavior. A couple of people went too far in that thread. We take the following of the TOS seriously.

The op is deleted so I have no idea who this thread is about?.(?)

A Korean celebrity passed away. Some people thought that it would be great fun to mock and ridicule a human being's death, so I deleted the original post. (I got a lot of "phpBB critical error"-type difficulties, which accounts for the 13 Shocked edits.)
Spliff, in addition to being a poster who never, ever has anything constructive to say, you are wrong. For your utter disrespect for the deceased, I cordially invite you to engage in carnal relations with yourself.
I must say that I'm a bit disappointed with the moderators as well. Somebody got very upset about some dead baby jokes and locked the thread, and yet took a strangely blase attitude towards the fact that people were openly laughing about how an actual person really passed on.

You are disappointed in the moderators, but you just told a poster to have carnal relations with himself? Okay, that's interesting. You must think we moderators have the equivalent in numbers of a British, Canadian, or US Army unit with tons of troops coming Kandahar, and watching the Khyber Pass, and the like.

We also rely on reports. A poster naturally assumes wherever he posts is very important. The moderators are not in the heads of every poster when they post, and we cannot be everywhere. We rely on reports, and various moderators go on the various forums and open up various threads and sift through what they can. Increasingly, very distasteful threads like this are going to be harder to get away with. We won't elaborate on that.

We take our obligations seriously, and if more posters did so as well, that would be grand.
