I noticed that my 512 gram chunk of beef I got at Emart only weighs 250 grams when weighing it. I sure thought it looked small, because it is. Yes, I have a kitchen scale. That's slightly more than a half pound for the price of slightly more than a pound for $10. Emart sure strings their customers along...
It also could be that the employee was touching the scale or the meat at the split second she weighed it.
Do you ever get ripped off when shopping Emart? It's all artificially over priced with artificially controlled amounts and severely limited selection as to keep prices high in support of producers. This is not to knock Korea, it's just the truth about retail business. Koreans just simply do not know how they are being taken advantage of as only a foreigner or higher up white collar Korean would know these sorts of things so an ignorant population can be taken advantage of. Of course, we're not here to change how the big wigs do things, but I must say they are anal when it comes to profits. It's too bad it's got to be that way, but I'm sure Emart has a huge selection of goodies compared to what little Korea had before there was Emart and imported goods. |

| My shopping at Emart basically stopped when they wanted 3500 for one quarter leg of chicken. Also, they no longer sell Australian beef from what I see, too. |

A month ago there was some corn on the cob at Emart. Fresh corn and yellow. Looked sweet. Three cobs for 2,900 won. So I buy.
Then I get over to Homeplus a few minutes later and they've go the same stuff for more than half the price.
Homeplus has stuff on sale, discounted but I never notice that at Emart.
Some Korean guy I was talking to lately said Emart was less expensive than Homeplus. Taxi driver. I can't see that at all. |

Because you wouldn't know that prices are outrageous if you've never traveled nor is the average person filled in on how business and pricing is done. The average Korean seems to be tolerant of getting the short end out of ignorance and when they know, they save face instead of complaining or fighting it as it's in support of their country. My co-teacher took me to Emart last week and said, "really?" when I told her it was a bit expensive, but she agreed with me when I told her how I much I pay at home for beef, milk, laundry detergent, etc. I told her it was 3 to 4 times as expensive in Korea due to limited supply in support of local producers.
Of course the small grocery stores are really ridiculous when it comes to limited supply, limited selection, and crazy pricing so Emart is not the worse. |

OP, you should contact the following TV show as they really like to go to town on customer complaints with companies. They should help you.

They looked at shops and you know the big packs of stuff you can get here, well they found out that the smaller packs of like choco pies are cheaper than the large packets of choco pies. They then found out which products rip customers off and then basically showed their results to like E-Mart and the producers of these products. They would be really interested in studying about the real quantity of meat compared to the box weight.

hell yeah they ripped off here.
POS "luxury" cars for 70 mil Won about (70,000) I'm sorry, an oversized hood and tinted windows do not a luxury car make. Also a dumb idea when gas is so over-priced (well *beep* cars, anyway who needs more CO2).
Phones. Portable house phones are 200 MILLION FUCKING WON.
That's about $200!! Back home I can get a low end model at any Electronics store for $15-20 bucks.
So it happens. Sometimes the higher prices might make more sense (more stuff needs to be imported or is maybe made locally instead of China) but by and large it's horse crap. They just don't know any better and have been living in an impoverished, dictator-run country for just up until the 1990s. So yeah, they have no clue, otherwise would they refuse to pay such prices. It's not like the workers get high wages or anything like that. Sometimes, it's like the Wal-Mart system but with high prices. |
