Most of you act like a trained dog - schooled to bark at strangers - and most likely can't explain what it is about Helms that you don't like w/o having to do a Google search.
Ruff ruff growl growl.
You've been well trained.

Social progress? That's certainly a matter of opinion open to debate.

I can't help but wonder if it'd be okay to celebrate if that shitty person was a member of a group of people we aren't allowed to criticize? Would we have a thread - never mind two threads - that the mods allowed for us to celebrate on?

I googled him. Wow..how can a man like that be voted in so many times. Obviously the people who voted for him were not the most open minded. |

Or maybe they just didn't buy into the PC propaganda and liked a man that didn't flip-flop, mince words, meant what he said, and stuck up for his race.

doesn't flip-flop= keeps opinion after being proven wrong repeatedly
doesn't mince words= said ignorant hateful things unashamedly
stuck up for his race= racist.
All my googling seems to indicate that the dude was a class a bigot. This obviously has to say something about the state of North Carolina. Them not being open minded, is the nicest way to say it really. |

America must be the moral leader. It is not enough to have power. Power must be used to protect freedom and give all people hope for the opportunity to see the fruit of their own labor.
Jesse Helms
I want our government to encourage and protect freedom as well as our traditions of faith and family.
Jesse Helms
That is why I fought against abortion and that is why if I were still in the Senate I would be doing everything I could to defend the sanctity of marriage.

Your tax dollars are being used to pay for grade school classes that teach our children that cannibalism, wife-swapping and the murder of infants and the elderly are acceptable behavior
Jesse Helms
The challenge is always before us. Whenever we lose sight of the principles that mattered to our founders we run into trouble.

blow me you rightwing fruit.
helms was a vocal opponent of pretty much everything i stand for... i.e. reproductive freedom, freedom to kiss whomever you want, however your libido dictates, and the total and utter destruction of the tobacco industry.
that's not left-wing dogma, that's my feelings. don't like it? i'll fight anywhere, anytime, because while being a liberal, i'm also a bigger redneck than most of the idiots who distill their booze from bill o'reilly's enema bag.
and the guy who was talking about tobacco farmers - how do you become a tobacco farmer? you probably inherited it from a generations-old tradition. of course i have sympathy for a person in a position like that, where your livelihood is threatened by common sense (my dad is a retired forestry worker) but it doesn't mean your industry shouldn't be destroyed. other people the world over have suffered hardships, just look at the auto industry. progress hurts people. |
