Considering the relative impossibility of teaching anything to some of my classes after exams, I thought of showing them some movies. Does anyone know where I might obtain NZ movies with Korean subtitles? Also, can anyone suggest movies representative of NZ culture that don't suck? Would Once Were Warriors be considered appropriate for middle schoolers?

I teach middle school and would not show Once Were Warriors to my students... maybe to grade 3 high school students.

'Goodbye Pork Pie.'

Lots of slapstick / non verbal comedy.
Plenty of NZ scenery

So is school policy generally quite restrictive then? My impression was that Koreans were into violent entertainment in a big way. As for the other suggestions, perhaps I'll try Goodbye, Pork Pie. Althogh it is very lame it does indeed have a lot of scenery, including my home town. I'd kind of like movies of better quality that are more representative of NZ culture though, although perhaps there aren't any.

A really good NZ movie was about an aspiring swimmer called 'Alex' which I thought was a great film!

No, not appropriate at all.

As for other suggestions, I'm not much help. I think Goodbye Pork Pie is extremely dated and would be thoroughly meaningless to Koreans, (plus I just don't like it anyway).

Whale Rider was a good suggestion.
Perhaps 'The World's Fastest Indian'?

Yes, I've seen it. It was only rated R13 when it first came out in NZ.
