Hello,

I responded to a craigslist ad for teachers in Korea for a two week summer program. The called less than a half an hour after I emailed my resume, and wanted me to go to an interview in their NJ office, however, since I'm on the other side of NY state this is not possible. It seems to good to be true (paid flights, accomodations, food, and $1100 for two weeks work) and I know they say if it seems to good to be true, it probably is, however, I feel like it might be legit.

Has anyone ever heard of a company based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and Seoul named New York Paramount International Education (NY PIE)? I asked if they have a website and was told it is in Korean... I have a Korean contact checking it out, but I don't know what she'll turn up.

Any advice on how to decide if they are legit or ideas on what the possible scam could be? They want me to email a picture and then we'll have a phone interview tomorrow.

Help please?

(this is not my own question, as I said, but rather posted for a friend since Dave's is not taking registrations right now)

Any company that provides English education and their website is not also in English would be a red flag for me. Why don't you get a public school gig? You would be able to expect everything guaranteed (health, pension, etc) including some other benefits.

As I said twice, this is not my post, merely something I posted for a friend. I think they are looking for something more short-term.

Having a Website, especially one in English, is not mandatory and is no indication that the venture is even legit. It does make sense that they would have one, at least in Korean.

I'd at least ask for the business license, although that certainly is no sure bet that your friend won't get shafted in the end.
