I was at an atm machine checking my balance (I was expecting pay for June). I forgot to take my card when I left. After 10 minutes I realized what I did and went back, but the card wasn't in the machine.

My bank account is with Nongyhup. My concern now is that someone might try to use it, but wouldn't they need a pin number? Instead of assuming they do, I want to make sure.

If they don't, is there a way to notify the bank so they can cancel the card? It's 7:35pm now, so the banks aren't open, just the atm area.

Chances are, if you didn't take it out of the machine the machine would have just swallowed it up..

I have some good news and some bad news:

Good news: No one is probably going to steal from you.

Bad news: If your Nonghyup Card is older than August 2007, then it is very likely you can kiss your ability to withdraw cash overseas goodbye. Nonghyup was one of the last banks to have been coerced into following an anti-foreigner collective punishment policy of not letting its foreign customers withdraw funds from abroad with their ATM card. Upon issuance of a replacement card they will probably not give you an international one again.

Thank you all for your replies. I don't think I have an international card. I couldn't even get my cell phone with the account. I had to open another bank account.

So, I just got back from the bank again. My girlfriend told me to go back and use their phone next to the atm machines. So I did. I think it is SECOM which is their security company. They had a security officer come by and take the card out.

Whether or not I will be charged for this I don't know, just glad someone didn't run off with it and try to use it.

Well, if I can get rid of my girlfriend, then my money will truly be secure.

There's no charge. I know this because it has happened to me before.

Spliff,

Is the word "love" not in your vocabulary?

you don't need a soul in order to love. being well-endowed will do.

I was once present when a bank clerk opened an ATM to remove the cards kept inside. Apparently there is a routine that will suck in the card if it isn't removed after some time. That ATM had about 20 cards in it, and the clerk told us that they have to clean it out more than once a week because the magazine can only hold so many cards!

But I am under the impression that the Korean ATMs don't open the money slot until you have pulled out the card and the receipt?

Another piece of useless information: In Thailand if you actually lose your ATM card, you must file a police report and hand it over to the bank before they issue you a replacement card! Not just if the card was stolen, but in all cases of loss.
