We just got a Wii and want to bring it with us to Seoul.

Korean televisions have the same standards as US televisions: NTSC

I was just wondering if it is affordable to buy a TV once we are in Korea? I know that some apartments come furnished with them...but at this point, we can't count on that.

Does anyone know what a decent TV would cost? It doesn't have to be fancy...it just has to work and be more than 4 inches wide.

Thanks!

First, it sounds like you haven't done your homework regarding job security.
Have you spoken to current teachers there on the phone? Have you asked about the school on the esl sites?
You just seem like you're already in doubt of your job parameters, so correct me if I'm wrong.

About the TV, yes they are NTSC. I brought my Wii with me. All you will need it a step down power converter. We are at 220volts, so you' need to lower that to the North American 120v.

You can buy a large CRT screen TV for under 300bucks, I think. You can also get a 40''+flat screen HD TV for under 800 a la Costco.

And a step down converter, I bought in Seoul for 12 bucks.

Confused

Where did this come from?

I guess you're not really wrong in what you say, but...something is wrong.

Now, the Wii is considered dangerous for the morality of Korea, and therefore banned and thus confiscated at customs.

Hmm, perhaps I jumped the gun. That's what happens when I'm PUI (Posting UNder the Influence)

The OP sounded doubtful that the apartment would be furnished. It struck me as something I'd want to be sure of.

Fair enough.

I think the OP was looking for TV specs in Korea...if there is or isn't a TV in their new place is of no consequence...they seem ready to buy one in a worst case scenario.

I dont know. I had the same thought as Cres. If you can't count on a new tv in the apartment- doesnt sound like a good way to begin the contract.

With that said, the wii is a great system and I hope the op enjoys their stay.
