Dave, thanks for the link to your guide.

I've been considering buying a dslr, but i'm a beginner... and a bit nervous about getting hosed on a deal.

Do you have any reccomendations on introductory models?

Hey NickQ,
I am a beginner also and I can tell you what worked for me..

this link sold me on the Nikon D40..

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/users-guide/index.htm

Great price designed well for beginners..

The only bad thing is that although you can use just about any Nikon Mounted lens not all of them will autofocus on the body. You will need to ensure that the lens have a built in focus motor... So something to think about.. It didnt really phase too much.

I am upgrading although my wife tells me I barely know my way around the D40 and she is right.. I am a gear Junky and I tend to go above and beyond my ability with tech gear.

Just my 2Cents.. although I am curious to see what SD has to say..

@Super Dave:

Ha! I just read a bit of your camera buying guide. I agree: YesDica is a good shop--there, I got a very fair price on a new Micro 200mm and other things this year. Good on ya for creating that site.

On the D40--excellent camera. I also owned a D40x and D80 (sold, too), but I only regret selling the D40. The high flash sync shutter speed was perfect for hand-held macro, and the overall usability and image quality are great. In fact, I'm going to buy another one this weekend, even though I have a D300.

Superdave... I love you. Anyways, I am trying to get to the website you mentioned in your blog, danawa... I can't seem to find the English button... Maybe you could assist my ignorance... Hope this isn't a dumb request, and there is a big red English button.... Although I did look for about 10 minutes. Thanks... Embarassed
