|
|
I'm getting the beetle from Busan to Fukuoka, and want to see as much of Japan as possible in the 2 weeks, but on a budget.
I want to see tokyo (around 3 nights), Hiroshima (1 night), Kyoto, Nara, Osaka (a week for the lot) and maybe Nagasaki.
Should i get the JR rail pass? 7 days or 14 days? I've looked into night buses but I'm never good at sleeping on any transport, but then they save a nights accomodation and you don't waste any daytime when you could be seeing things.
I'd really appreciate people's opinions.
I don't mind spending a bit more money for the sake of convenience, but accommodation and travel prices will build up over the 2 weeks and I don't want this to be too expensive a trip! |

According to Lonely Planet, traveling in Japan is cheaper than traveling in Europe or North America.
They have a whole page of tips to stay on budget:
*the Japan Rail Pass/ 5-day tickets "Seishun Juhachi Kippu
*where to stay: capsule hotels, "manga kissa" coffee shops, guest houses
*eating: shokudo, bento (lunch boxes), noodles...
*shopping: flea markets, 100 yen stores. |

yes - im arriving and leaving japan from fukuoka.
http://www.123bus.net/ has some pretty cheap buses. i think i'll get the 7 day pass and use it from fukuoka to hiroshima (one night), hiroshima - tokyo (4 nights in tokyo) and then tokyo to kyoto. after that the 7 days will be used up. il travel round kyoto, osaka and nara, then get back to fukuoka by overnight bus (maybe)....possibly go to nagasaki too (is it worth going to?)
i'm still unsure whether i should just buy the 14 day jr pass and be done with the hassle.
i want to find the cheapest places to sleep! i dont care if it means a couple of nights in a internet cafe. i cant believe how much this trip is gonna cost!!! |

i know i'm worried about the costs too.... but if you're willing to sleep at internet cafes, which i heard is actually quite comfortable (about 2500 yen) or capsule hotels (3000 yen) or guesthouses (3500 yen) you'll be fine. |
