I swore off betting on this kind of thing after the "Kursk" sank. Lost my bet...

Also I think you're probably right about this, and I don't really want to bet against you.

Ah, hell with it-- I go "Israel bombs Iran in November." After that, who knows?

From the US as well. I hope to god nothing happens between Iran and the U.S. If something goes down, GWB might just conveniently find some string to pull to keep his ass in office a bit longer, watch the dollar shrivel up and then you'll see a compulsory military service, although the Dems might not be to opposed to reinstating a draft, as long as the rich kids go as well.

Who would you rather have in the office if this were to ever happen? McCain or Obama?

I suspect it'll make little difference, in the short term at least, whether it's Obama or McCain in office. Seems the US is pretty much locked in to supporting Israel regardless, and also, the Iranians will bash out madly at American holdings if they let the Israeli airforce do the initial strike. They'd have to pass through Iraqi airspace to do it, I think, which would be pretty much the same, in Iranian eyes, as the Americans doing it themselves.

Lots of other countries are pissed at Iran though. If Israel plays its cards right it might be possible to let the Americans build a coalition to go in there and take out the plant, and maybe the regime as well. Wouldn't be the first time a democratically elected Iranian government gets smooshed by Uncle Sam.

But it seems there's probably at least a year or more before the Iranians could really nuke anybody, so what's the rush?

The other issue is 'how to take out the nuclear facility without actually using nukes?' The Iranians are dug in pretty deep. Daisy cutters won't do it. We might see a tactical nuke here.

I wonder what the other Arab nations would/ will do if Iran and the US go at it? Might see a lot of attempted coups, and at least a big increase in Al Qaeda activity in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. There's no uniting force there, except for hatred of Israel and the US...

And what will Russia do, exactly?

Man, super bad scene coming up I bet. Bloody grim times.

I think that little war-monger GW will manufacture any damn excuse he has to in order to get a strike on Iran in before his term expires. Doesn't matter to him waht happens after. Someone else has to clean his mess up. If Israel thinks they need to take a poke at Iran, so be it. It's their 'hood. But for the US to do a drive by and expect that they won't retaliate would be a terrible mistake.

I know, but they would be doing different things on the side which could have any serious effect on the country.

Couple of talking points here to add to the mix.

1. It has been reported that Iran can/will have a nuclear weapon as early as Sept '08, and another report dated in April said within six months. I will try to get the link up.

2. US has people in Iran now. (SOF types) That's public knowledge.

3. Need to push a Rebublican agenda i.e. presidental canidate, policy, legislation then manufacture some type of military operation.

4. It's a ticking time bomb and even if the US doesn't initiate the attack we will be drawn into it. YEE-HAW

GW is not going to start another war. After the last one, which isn't even finished I doubt he'll have the credibilty or money to start another pre-emptive illegal war.

I'd expect him to make up some bullc*ap, go it alone and a month or two after that America to go bust.

America has it's fingers in lots of pies unfortunately it's all the wrong ones.

Hegemonic status revoked.

If memory serves me, the IDF reached out and flew all the way across enemy territory to knock out an Iraqi reactor circa 1980.
