I have a low level class. My first class I had with them I discovered that they couldn't READ, even worse they could barely make out the alphabet. Upon seeing this I decided to drill them on the alphabet at the beginning of every class that I had with them. I had them write it out, to the best of there abilites, and after I corrected it I had them read it five times. They have improved over the past month and I had them begin to wirte simple sentences.

I thought that it was a great way to begin the titanic effort that is to learn Englishee.

I WAS WRONG!

My co-teacher recieved a complaint from a parent saying that they sent their child to our school for conversation and to have fun. Of course, without resistance I said that I would stop my practice of having them writing out the aplhabet and simple sentences. I said that I would focus more on conversation!

My friend keeps reminding me that hogwans are not real schools. I'm starting to see it.

yeah I was recently told off through my Korean co-teacher by a parent because I disciplined a student in my class. Apparently "I will send this to your mother to show her what you do in class" is the Korean equivalent to, "your mom is a *beep* and you are the product of when abortions do not take." I still won the argument cause the student in question is a slacker.

Did you start writing simple sentences a month after learning the alphabet??? You need to build recognition skills first. They need to learn phonics (what sounds letters make). You are putting the cart before the horse.

Try to build speaking skills first (does a baby learn to speak or write first?) through constant repetition "D is for d..d..dog." and so on for each letter of the alphabet. Give them writing practice to do for homework.

Beginning classes can be the most fun (and littlest prep) if done correctly. make sure to have them repeating everything at least 5 times.

Just go to the closest corner store from your house and find this little green bottle with 소주 written on it. You should take atleast one tonight maybe two, perhaps three. It will cure all of your ills.
