Zimbabwe central banker answers to Mugabe, bible
Quote:
Custodian of a currency in free fall in a country ravaged by hyperinflation, Gideon Gono, Zimbabwe's central-bank governor, scoffs at "traditional economics" and seeks guidance elsewhere.

He says he reads the Bible.

This, says the guardian of Zimbabwe's monetary policy, has taught him the importance of obeying Robert Mugabe, the country's 84-year-old leader and architect of policies widely blamed for the destruction of a once-flourishing African economy.

"Anyone who says the bank governor should violate the head of state is violating a principle that Jesus Christ demanded of his disciples," says Mr. Gono, a churchgoing Christian and former commercial banker. "A key element Christ looked for in his disciples was loyalty."

...
Quote:
Every few months, Mr. Gono presents a review of the central bank's policies. Each ends with the same message: "In God's hands I submit this Monetary Policy Statement."

Currently US$1>ZMB$1Billion with an inflation rate well above 100,000%. Admittedly, I'm not very religious but I don't think the word inflation appears anywhere in the bible. Moreover, such a transfer of wealth (read:Government theft) to the ruling class seems to be very unbecoming of a Christian. People still seem to think they can get away with anything so long as they invoke the name of Jesus, Allah or whatever the deity of the day might be.

Interesting how he scoffs at "traditional economics." This just goes to show what ends up happening when you abandon the scientific method in favor of a 2 thousand year old book full of myths and riddles.

Actually it would probably be better for the country if he _did_ follow the Bible, that's how bad the economic situation is.

35 ' If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

fail

5 He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. (Psalm 15:5)

fail

12 "In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take usury and increase; you have made profit from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me," says the Lord GOD.

fail

The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered, For the LORD has spoken this word.

success!

Quote:

Comparing Old Mutual's share price in London and Harare, Josh Giersch concludes that there are now 35 billion Zimbabwean dollars to one US dollar - up from a mere 17 billion on Friday. Which would put annualized inflation, he says (I haven't checked his math) at 430,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000%. May as well just round it up to the nearest billion quadrillion quadrillion, at this rate.

From The Economist.

The German firm that sells the paper to Zim for the printing of money has agreed to stop.

Quote:
German firm halts bank note sales to Mugabe regime

FRANKFURT, Germany - A German company that has been supplying paper used by Zimbabwe's central bank to print bank notes said Tuesday it is stopping shipments immediately at the request of Germany's government.

The move could be a new problem for the regime of President Robert Mugabe, which has been churning out currency amid skyrocketing inflation that forces Zimbabweans to shop with bundles of cash.

I doubt it will have any impact, unfortunately.

The Rhodesian dollar was 1:1 with the American dollar.
After only 28 years of black rule...buying a loaf of bread costs the same amount you could have bought the entire continent for.

The economic policy is dictated by former baby-killing terrorist Mugabe, Gono is just his muppet.

"President Robert Mugabe has promised to print more money"
http://article.wn.com/view/2007/07/28/We_will_print_more_money_Mugabe/

Most of the monopoly money churned out is used to pay off Mugabe's allies and foot soldiers to keep them on side.

But bad news: the German company hired to print the worthless banknots has pulled out.

"The German company Giesecke & Devrient had a licence to print money to fuel Zimbabwe's hyper-inflationary economy. But now that it has bowed to pressure to stop, who will print all those zeros on Robert Mugabe's bank notes?"
http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/news/2008/07/zimbabwe_giesecke_devrient_sto.html

This is what happens when the west, suffering from post-colonial guilt, rushes to install a terrorist leader and his fellow gangsters as a president, simply because he is black.

Didn't the demographics of Rhodesia determine this? If memory serves, whites were 5.5% of the population when Smith lost that election. This is exactly the opposite for the demos for Canada, where Natives makeup 5.5% of the population.

Sure the whites were a minority that quickly lost power when One-man one vote was brought in.
It was by no means inevitable that whites would lose power. Rhodesian security forces had fought successfully for 15 years against Mugabe's insurgents. They had never lost a battle. Thats right. They never lost a single skirmish. Militarily, Rhodesian troops were in control. There were more blacks fighting on the Rhodesian side than whites.

So what happened?

Western interference is what happened.
Rhodesia relied on South Africa for oil and equipment, etc. Thus it could have survived the barrage of international sanctions- much like Mugabe can now, with his lifeline from Thabo Mbeki.
American delegates, headed by Kissinger, promised South Africa many gaurantees if they stopped supporting Rhodesia. One was that they would never put sanctions on South Africa.

Overnight, Pretoria sealed its borders to Rhodesia.
Ultimately Rhodesia was forced to accede to the demands of the west for free elections. having unilaterally declared independence since 1965, it then had no choice but to momentarilly become a British colony again for a few hours while Prince Charles flew in to formally hand over power to Mugabe.

Because they were all killed when white settlers first arrived in Canada.

In Zimbabwe and South Africa, white settlers accomodated and benefitted indigenous people, rather than wiping them out.
100 years later the black population had swelled to the millions it is today. Mostly due to the agriculture and food production of the whites.

South Africa and Zimbabwe are both biting the hands that feed them, out of racial spite. Its no wonder that such former thriving economies are now little more than beggars for food aid. But the whole situation was brought about by outside interference from the West.

I'm interested in the correlation between hyperinflation and being black. Is there evidence the finance minister in the Weimar Republic was black?

You're telling me that the indigenous people in Canada were not cleared, killed, harrassed, attacked and otherwise herded off their land? So that todays white settlers could live on stolen land and call it Canada?

Not sure what they told you in school but history is taught by the victors I suupose.
