You do realize it's impossible for anyone to tell you when you haven't stated your location, right?

7 hours? More like 3 by car on the expressway.

I took old mountain highways by motorcycle and made it in 4.5.

Totally depends on the traffic. You might find it three hours just getting out of Seoul/Kyongi-Do before hitting the freer highways in Kangwon-Do..

if you plan your trip logically i dont see it taking more than 4 hours

for example (don't leave friday evening or saturday morning)
ideally friday at 11 or 12 would be ideal for no traffic

coming back will be the same deal....traffic coming towards seoul from gangwon is horrible on sunday evenings.....good luck

I did the trip by car.

There Sat morning - 4-5 hours, nice trip, traffic not bad.
Back Sunday afternoon - 8 hours, awful trip, traffic jams from hell. Avoid at all costs.

I wasn't driving so it wasn't so bad, but the driver absolutely hated every minute of it. And it's boring and hot.
