My school wants me to make a booklet for my summer camp. I guess its like a textbook/workbook in one for all the lessons at the camp. I have to have it done by Tuesday.

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get it done. I've never made a textbook before and I don't know where they expect me to find all the pictures, dialogs, cartoons, etc.... for it.

I was just going to copy and paste the lessons from published English workbooks, but they want everything original. I guess they dont' want to run into copyright issues.

I need help. Anyone have a camp book they've done before they don't mind sharing?

One good option given your time constraint is to pull different ideas from the different books and put them together into each lesson. Different books often have lessons on similar themes so pull ideas from different books type them up stick in the pictures and you have your original workbook. You can find good clip art either through word or using google image.

In putting together your lesson one model that I have used in the past is to : incljude a dialogue (at appropriate level / some activities using the vocabulary in the dialogue / other vocabulary that could be used to adapt the dialogue / getting students either individually or in pairs to adapt dialogue filling in missing words / and then practising / demonstrating their new dialogue / and then some game activity that uses what you have learnt that lesson.

I'm also working on this kind of stuff and mine's has to be somewhat complete by tomorrow morning.

Here's a crossword puzzle exercise where there is a Student A crossword puzzle sheet that has the words on it the Student B needs and Student B's sheet has the word that Student A needs to complete his puzzle. It has a sample dialog for them to have asking for this info.
Pretty good exercise, I thought.

I'll give it a shot.

My school sees the camp books from other schools done last year. They expect me to do the same thing. Problem is, those schools probably had 3-4 people working on it together. I'm suppose to do this solo.

My school has gotten a lot better about giving notice on things.

It depends on how big and how involved. I made camp booklets at school for the past three years. One things to remember, change the things that need changing, and leave the things that don't need changing alone. Why re-invent the wheel all the time.

I have a template that can be modified to any length just as long as you remember the odd even format. I have a couple that are good for smaller booklets up to about 20 pages. Let me know which one would be useful for you and I can send you the template. My Public School loves me for doing this because it frees up the co-teacher's time and makes me look good, I guess. I've resorted to the old school method of literally cutting and pasting workbooks, worksheets, printouts, etc...

I think I have about 14 lessons now. 6 more to go.
