Wouldn't you say?
About 2 or 3 years back these forums were a riot of flaming, trolling, baiting and abuse.
Half of the topics were inane, frivolous, silly.

The mods were either absent or joined in the flaming under the guise of their socks.

But it appears, to me at least, these forums have calmed, matured, become more intellectual even. Its become tame. Everywhere are polite threas on sensible topics with good natured banter.

its a good thing. But...How'd it happen? Is it because of the new tightened visa regulations?

How many of us have advertized for teachers, found out about potential employees, or ever found a decent teaching gig on here, huh? ALL of US I would say! Evil or Very Mad

My Mama always taught me to appreciate and never bite the hand that feeds my handsome ass! Evil or Very Mad

The trolls, socks and downright trouble makers on this site that immaturely refuse to abide by its rules are nothing but inferior scum based hommies sans a hood, you read, huh? So, the hand with you, dirtbags, the hand. Talk to the hand before it slaps your stupid ass face, scum of the earth troll, sock poop! Evil or Very Mad

trol yes, but not at all new, he's been here in various forms longer than I have, and he's mostly harmless. The worst he's likely to do is post a lengthy and entirely false "dear penthouse" type letter.

OP, you must be posting on a different board than the one I seee

Ah, bullsheet... it's because your mama could be watching. Razz

Except that this mama was in the navy and has a license to swear. Wink

The flame wars can be quite entertaining when handled in the proper pissing contest format. Yet I try to set a higher standard for myself and refuse to participate... Until the urge to instigate comes over me--often enough to recognize my own trollish behaviour. So it be.

Posters like me pointed out that the flaming is a result of posters feeling insecure within themselves which does make us all better understand why some people flame. Many of us have recognized this competing and pitting against each other and decided to quit eating rotten bananas and kicking dead dogs.

Like everything, Daves evolves and changes. It won't be the same site in 3 to 5 years from now nor is it the same site today that it was 3 to 5 years ago.

I think a good few of the troublemakers may have been forced out of Korea by tighter visa regulations.
in addition, I think there are more long-termers here, and as a whole posters have been in Korea longer, on average, than was the case 3 years ago.
Fewer people are working at oppressive hogwons, and more at proper schools. As a result the anger and ranting has died down somewhat.
its a better-adjusted environment. Maybe its because Korea is 'maturing" as a place for foreigners to live, who knows?

I haven't met an internet message board/forum yet that hasn't dissolved into bickering every couple months (weeks even) or so.

The raunch I see on this board isn't exactly atypical of most (mature--not a bunch of Emily Posts) places either.

Agreed. Some forums are pretty ruthless. Dave's is quite tame even for a teacher forum. Believe it or not Dave's does have standards that some places don't.
