Can anyone recommend an online book store or bittorrent site that offers e-book downloads?

I wanted to get a few e-books recently off of Amazon but they only download to their e-book reader (forgot the name of it) and I'm not about to spend another $400 something I don't need - I already have a notebook computer that I can read pdf files from.

any suggestions?

I have a kindle and love it! But if you don't want to get one, yeah, no ebooks on Amazon....

But you will find lots for FREE! That's no problem. Please go to EFL Classroom 2.0 and check out the books link. eserver/gutenberg/librivox etc...plenty free and also links to other pay ebooks.... Even check out our Amazon personalized EFL Bookstore. Only the best books there. http://eflclassroom.ning.com/books

Lots of free ebooks there and I will upload Teacher Man in audio, into our Resource Share area, just finished it in audio.......

Cheers,

DD

I have a Sony ereader that I love, and every book I wanted has been found in their store...but that isn't what you want to know.

I have purchased books on http://www.ebooks.com/ for laptop reading.

You're welcome....

For teachers but also some general reading stuff, another pirating site is www.englishtips.org Russian and has most stuff for download although you have to use Zshare or Rapidshare and usually wait to get a free download.

Oskinny1,

I downloaded the Sony software but it only gave me an option for providing a Canada / U.S.A. address.

Did you find a Sony version that will accept our addresses in Asia? Unfortunate too because it had one of the books in e-book format that I want to get my hands on!

The Kindle and Sony readers are evil.

It sickens me they charge so much money for something which costs about $10 to make.

Bass -- I agree but not wholly.

You got to start somewhere and soon guys like myself and others will be seeding the kindle and then we will once again get them cheaper and cheaper until a point where everyone just goes online and gets the free stuff and won't even pay 99 cents for a book.

they aren't learning from the music biz so the book biz is taking us down the same yellow brick road.....

I think you need to go to the ereader site that i posted. It isn`t through Sony, they have their own software. Not sure how you`d go about getting things if they don`t allow your credit card... sorry.

As for the other person complaining about how much it costs to make, there are a few more things that are included other than price of parts. They had to develop the `paper` first for example. That took money.

Oskinny1, Yeah, that site worked for me. Thanks.

The deal with the Sony e-book website was that customers must enter their billing address and credit card info. either in Canada or the U.S.A. Since I'm here in Asia, it would not let me purchase any books without having first entered my credit card info back in North America. Once this info is entered in North America, there should be no problem for people to travel abroad and order e-books from overseas.

Some other good e-book sites I found and ordered from yesterday after a few hours of searching:
