I've been thinking about getting a DS with the R4 or TT card so I can download/play games on it. I guess my question is if I get a DS in Korea, would it be a problem to use and charge in the US? Would all I need is a new power cable? Or would I have to buy a step down transformer?

Also, would it be possible to buy the TT card here and use it on a US DS?

The power supply for a Korean DS is 110v only, so you can only plug it in here. However, you can buy a free-volt or USB power cable so as long as you dont plug the one that came with it into different voltage you're fine.

Cartridges are not region locked so yes the R4/TT will work in a US ds. In fact, I just sent one to my niece and she's the envy of her friendsv

you can buy a new power adapter in your home country when you go back. Thats what I did.

The TT card holds as much as the MiniSD card you put inside it does. So it depends what you buy. YOu just connect the minisd card into a card reader into the USB and drag and drop the games you want. (After you installed the TT cards software for the first time.) That info is available on the web if you want more details.

You need the DSTT and a SD or SDHC memory chip. The games go on the chip and the chip is plugged into the DSTT. My DSTT came with a small USB card reader that works just fine.

So I can get a Korean DS and then just buy a US power cord back in the States and it will work, no problems?

How much does a TT card cost? And what is a good sized chip to get?

I got a DSTT with a 4gig chip off gmarket. It was 65'000원. You can buy a converter to plug the DS in in N. America for something like $6.

When you say a converter plug, that just plugs into the korean plug and lets me plug it into a US power source? I don't need a transformer then?

You need a transformer, not just an adapter. Step up converters, to plug a 240/220V thing into a 120/110V outlet are very cheap and small. Around $10 in the airport.

OR you could do like I said and just buy the american version of the power adapter. Then you don't need to mess with convertors etc. . The power conversion is done outside of the DS, not internally. Duh! haha. Like I said, thats what I did and it worked out perfectly fine. Why do you think those power adapters on the DS are so thick? Because they change the voltage themselves to what the DS needs.

It causes no problems, and yes, I have a korean DS. I'm back in Korea now, and so I'm using the Korean version of the adapter now, but when I was back home I just went to the store and bought the US version and everything was fine.

The DS doesn't directly use 220 Volt, or 120 volts, it uses 5.2V. The power adapter lowers the voltage to what the DS can use. All DS's use 5.2V.

OH and i just wanted to add that this is almost true of all high tech devices which use a power adapter, not just the DS. For example, I did the same thing for my digital camera. I could disconnect the power cord from the power adapter, and just add an american one, and it worked. I did the same for my old laptop when I came to Korea (but changed it to a korean style power cord attached to the same power adapter the computer came with). My macbook also does this. The only things you need a transformer or convertor for are things which don't have power adapters, such as blenders, toasters, etc.

So with a Korean DS, an American power supply will work OK and not fry the DS? Just wanting to make sure before I buy, I don't want to fry my DS!
