If U got into power as leader of this country, whats the first thing you'd do?

I would:

Cut the number of vehicles on the roads by half.

Set up an alternative energy plan.

-all new vehicles hitting the road after 2010 must be electric.
-all old vehicles (for non-industrial use) would be phased out in 10 years.
-build more nuclear power plants.

Set up military training programs

-all men and women who do compulsary service would get gov sponsotred discounts at universities.
-the military would focus on job training as well as defensive training.

Cut all funding for the English Village programs. Set up 1 or 2 full ride uni scholarships per high school for students who speak the best English. Allow them 1 free year of overseas education in North America to boot. To receive all of this, the students must agree to teach at least 5 years for the Korean public school system, as well has help train new incoming teachers.

Make the Kindy classes learn partially in English for the first year, and continue adding more teachers for that generation year after year, and also teach the following generations. After 12 years or so, there will be a full program in place.

- Quietly, start allocating more money in a fund for reunification.
- Start new campaign changing the attitude of people towards certain jobs.
- Start a new campaign changing the attitude of people towards people, businesses, especially foreign businesses and people, making money.
- Make english an optional subject, but taking a 2nd language a requirement.
- Get rid of all the native English teachers in the public schools and spend that money on training Korean english teachers.
- Shut down most of the english hagwons.
- Crack down on the "entertainment" visa, we all know what most of these girls will be doing.
- Change all visas, so that it isn't employer dependent.
- Make it so a permanent residency visa will be easier to acquire. Maybe make it so that you have no criminal record and 5 years of living in Korea.
- Make all F series visa permanent, so once you get it you don't need to renew. Unless you do something really bad, then it can be revoked.
- Get rid of that stupid activeX on Korean websites and stop requiring people to enter their residency number to use most website. So, anyone living in Korea can use Korean websites.

Fuckin' A, man.

I suppose the first thing I would do, (I mean, besides two chicks) would be to ban all further construction projects for large apartment complexes in Seoul.

Seriously, they just continue to build these massive projects that will crowd any given area by 20X, and seem to do absolutely nothing to change the surrounding infrastructure. Parking, traffic, shopping, schools, etc.

On second thought, I think I would probably reform the entire university entrance exam system. It's complete rubbish that has a negative trickle-down impact on nearly every aspect of Korean society.

I'd get rid of these stupid, insane new E2 visa regs for people like me who have been here a few years...like we could really commit crimes in the US if we have been here for the past 2 years...needless to say, we have to get a CBC just to renew at the same school. Ridiculous.

I'd also crack down on people who come here and teach illegal privates because they think they are better than everyone else. They think they deserve to make extra, illegal money on the side, then complain and cry when they are caught and deported.

I'd also get rid of all of these foriegner restrictions, like at banks, etc.

2. Exterminate the leader of North Korea
3. Legalize dope

i'm with bassexpander on setting up a new energy plan. Although I wouldn't push electric cars so much. especially since most of the electricity for the cars would be generated by power plants that use coal. Nuclear energy is an ok medium term solution. I would aggressively push conservation. Change building codes and expand public transportation, etc. As well as encourage alternative energy.

I would scrap university entrance exams and allow the university to set their own admission requirements. But they would have to be based off the final grades a student earned from highschool. Measures to ensure that parents do not bribe teachers will have to be put in place. I would also increase teacher training. It would be done slowly over time but at the end teachers will have to have been trained for five years, which is the same for teachers in Finland.

I would also pay conscript soldiers a monthly salary of 500,000 or one million won. They currently get basically nothing.

I would redo the police from the ground up. Make them more accountable and put more power into their hands.

I would toughen the enforcement of laws. Make it illegal for people to buy their way out of trouble or jail time by paying off the family they wronged. The rich should be able to hire better lawyers but ultimately, the justice system should be able to hand down decisions.

I would fire all the useless judges. Put impartial and fair judges on the bench.

I would make it illegal for people to dis-respect the uniform or the authority of the police. This means at those protests, if they get violent, they go to jail, do not pass GO.

A 1 term president can only do so much. As teachers, many of you have expressed changing the education system. That is a goal that would take 10-15 years to realize, and every new president fvcks things up that the old one put in place.

Once the police are empowered and the justice system backs them up, hopefully other pieces of the first world nation puzzle will fall into place.

I'd definitely make life a lot harder on child abuses, rapists, and guys who think its their duty to be a tough guy and beat on their gf, wife or kids.
