I was collecting those sauce packets during my 3 months in the states and brought a big bag of them to Korea so I could get my fill when I'm thinking, "Yo quirro Taco Bell!"

I understand Korea had Taco Bell and a lot more variety of things before the IMF about 10 to 12 years ago, but fails to import much as it tries to protect it's economic interests by having articially high tariffs that turn off global companies from entering the Korean market.

I was trying to get soldiers in Itaewon last Summer to take me on base, but they said they were warned they'll get an article 16 in the UCMJ (fine and black mark) if they get caught catering DOD services to civilians.

That has the most load of BS rules. You know how many civilians go on the base everyday. Just make a GI friend and go in there

I'll take some garlic bread from Jack Astor's, and a baseball steak from the keg, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes...

They are a snap to make. You don't even have to go to Costco, though they do have great tortillas along with sour cream. You can get the smaller ones at Homeplus and add cheese, meat, and whatever else you like.

That's not it as much as Mexican food just doesn't go over well here. The company that owns Taco Bell is already in the Korean market. KFC and Pizza Hut's are everywhere in Korea. If they wanted they could just join one of those and serve alongside one another. Many international Taco Bells are located on US military sites and don't bother with the general public, even in Europe. Sad but true. I miss it dearly as well. Crying or Very sad

Mmmm, I used to go Taco Bell almost every weekend when my bf was in the military here...miss those days. But yeah I second that idea of making a military friend to hook you up.

That cafeteria and bowling alley, man it's almost like stepping back into America.

Man, you can't be serious. There are way better Mexican options around... and you can make several on your own for 20 bucks!

Chili Chili / Taco in HBC kicks ass over Taco Bell. If you miss the refried beans in your burrito, go to Amigo Taco just a block south of Itaewon station. Anything else, you can easily make yourself. I used to crave Taco Bell too but nowadays, like the previous poster said, there are way better options outside the base!

Yep, caught that one 2 months ago in Missouri and it made for a great fish fry.

I used to be in the US Army myself and the bases do have a taste of the good ol' US of A. I miss the US Army, despite knowing it's awful to serve in Iraq for a meaningless cause that doesn't even remotely represent fighting for freedom. The commissary(supermarket) has American food at American prices where you could get big beef roasts and 95% lean beef for just $3 a pound or .6 kilo. Their dining facilities rock too with having all American food such as omelets, tator tots, fresh salads, and lots of coffee and juice. Well, it's always too much of a good thing when you have access to it. I seriously doubt if any American military are eating rice and kimchee for lunch. LOL.

It was sweet having that ID card where I could go anywhere in the world and get American services and $10 AMC mac flights and air base hotels for $10 a night. Yep, $10 per segment and for a room. The only drawback was waiting a long time in lines...

Despite having Taco Bell in America, in 1999(when I got out) we still didn't have that as we only had Burger King and then the great bowling alleys, but I know they have more today than ever before. I enjoyed the bowling alleys as they were great places to make new friends and see your friends as well as enjoy a good bite to eat and fun games. It was close community of camaraderie. I enjoyed the military life and was going to make a career of it until my knee screwed up. I had it set up where they was going to pay all my cost to get a bachelors and then start at $3000/month with full benefits as a lieutenant.
