ps3, think about it like this, you pay extra for it, but i think internet is free, so if u want to play online ud be paying 40quid a year for xbox live, after 2 years that works out at 80quid.

that said, no halo on ps3, and that game is kinda why you would buy xbox

I'm happy enough with my PS2 and my Wii. I can wait patiently for the PS4.

Well, i know the 360 can be modded in yongsan for like $70, so you'd never have to buy another game again. I still haven't heard of anyone modding a PS3.

I own a PS3. I've never been impressed with the gaming experience, although I use it for blu-ray movies. I think the 360 is better for games.

With that said, price reductions should be coming. Read this:

judging by the the consoles predecessors I'd say Playstation will be more likely to release better quality of games, though that might mean it might be more worthwhile to purchase the ps3 at a later date and in the meantime buy a 360 and halo, because thats all you need really Cool

Having both, I'd have to say if I was forced to part with one of them it would be the PS3.
The systems are comparable in ability, but the 360 has far more games, and often titles seem to run smoother on the 360. (easier to program for from what I read)
Yeah, the PS3 has free online, but is $50 a year really that much?
I got both systems, thinking that each system would have enough exclusives to justify their respective purchase. So far I've been happy with the small flood of goodness on the 360, and more than a little frustrated that almost everything I would want on the PS3 so far; I can play on my 360.

360 exclusives (at least at time of writing)
Bioshock (will FINALLY be coming to PS3 a year later)
(EDIT: If you haven't played Bioshock yet, you've missed out on a glimpse of the best possible future for gaming. Organic storytelling (use of surroundings to convey exposition etc.), incredible visuals, creepy atmosphere, intense action... Believe the hype. Now PS3 owners will have no excuse not to play THE greatest game of 07)
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Dead Rising
Crackdown
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Eternal Sonata
Culdcept
Gears of War
Viva Pinata (which was surprisingly good)
Penny Arcade ep. 1

Coming Soon:
Star Ocean 4
Gears 2
Too Human
Tales of Vesperia
Fable 2
Borderlands
Infinite Undiscovery
The Last Remnant
Penny Arcade ep.2/3

Coming Eventually:
Alan Wake
Halo Wars
Red Faction: Guerilla

PS3 Exclusives
Ratchet/Clank
Resistance (looks like a PS2 game next to Gears)
Drake
Warhawk
Metal Gear Solid 4
Haze
Lair
Heavenly Sword

Coming Soon:
Disgaea 3
Valkyria Chronicles

Coming Eventually:
White Knight Story
Resistance 2 (looking MUCH improved)
LittleBigPlanet
(where the hell are all the jrpgs I bought this thing for?!)

This is, by no means, a complete list.
I have, however, played all the games here that are out (except Haze), and I can say without pause that the 360 exclusives are not only more numerous, but also of a higher standard (on average).

Both systems have achievement/trophy systems now, but PS3 is still getting caught up in that regard. (If you don't know, it's like having a metagame... Imagine a 'score' that takes into account all of your gaming on that system. Pretty cool, but not really good for anything.)

If you're just getting one system make it a 360. Free online is no justification for passing up mo' bettah' gamin'. (of course if you're a MGS fanboy then you kind of have to go with the PS3)

They've changed how they manufacture the 360s so you (hopefully) shouldn't have to worry about the hardware failure anymore. At least I haven't heard of any fresh batches of RRODs since the warranty extension.
Should be no more overheating, and its only as loud as one jet engine now. (not that the PS3 is much quieter...at least the 60g configuration)
On a side note Final Fantasy XIII is coming to 360 now. Shocked
How weird is that? Maybe it's one of the signs of the apocolypse?

If you're into multiplayer games and a polished online coop with over 2 million players, go with the 360. Xbox live KILLS. And there will be exclusive

If you want to spend twice that for a more comprehensive solo-focused media center (Blu-ray with more media attachments, ports, etc.) drop the cash for the PS3.

IMHO, Mass Effect, Bioshock and GOW are three of the best console titles in history, and both (to date) are 360 exclusives.

People have been talking about how the PS3 is going to "catch up" for the past 2 years. In the meantime, I've been playing the best games in the world with people from all over it.

I read that this week the prices for Xbox 360 will drop, has anybody been able to confirm this in Yongsan or elsewhere yet?

I left my Xbox in Thailand but I have been blocked because I played a bad copy of Halo 3 (should have waited another day for my regular dealer to come up with it) so I will need to buy a new one anyway to get back on Xbox Live Embarassed

The nice thing in Thailand is that it is near impossible NOT to get a "fixed" Xbox. The odd thing in Thailand is that the department stores all sell the Xbox hardware for near double the RRP whilst not offereing a single important incentive more than the shoebox stores in the aisles (warranty etc.).

Anyway from what I read across the internet, Xbox still seems to be first choice for many. The PS3 was probably designed more to kill HD-DVD rather than the Xbox Rolling Eyes

on xbox360. whats the story with storing games on the hard drive. do you have to do it as if its a pc and install the game?

And if you get the xbox chipped in yongsan, is it likely you will get blocked form the xbox servers?

Also, is there any way to unblock your console once you have gotten blocked?

Unblocking seems to be very hard and the only I methods I have found so far always involved stealing a machine ID from a friend, a stranger or a shop.

Chipping if done properly should not lead to blocking. But there have been moments in the past where MS blocked certain chipped machines via their update.

So far I have been using the hard drive only to store downloaded content (games from Live, movies) and save games. The big games all run from DVD.

What I have learnt the hard way is that improperly copied games are recognised by the machine and will lead to immediate blocking, at least that's what happened with my dirty copy of Halo 3.

If you have an enemy with an Xbox just run this on their machine while they are online... Shocked
