Well, the title says it all. Stuff happens..and mine got soaked in [ocean] water for about 30 minutes. It won't power on now. I can still charge the battery though. Is there anyway to revive/fix it? It's a canon. It's only a year old..I don't know where the warranty or if there is. I really like this camera...can I fix this mess?? |

sea water,....unlikely.
Even if the water all evaporates, youll have salt residue that will screw all the internals and grind away at anything that moves.
Try find the warranty, claim insurance if u can....but id most likely kiss that baby good by.
If you wanna try - take it apart as much as you can, rinse and soak it in fresh water to try and get rid of the salt etc...then dry it out over a few days. But really i doubt itll power up ever again. |

IF it had batteries in it when it took the dip then you probably shorted out the circuit board (salt water is a conductor).
I suspect it is dead.

The battery is probably fine. It is a closed system. IT would have shorted out and drained itself but can be recharged. It is this discharge that would have killed the circuits in the camera.
The memory chip is probably OK subject to salt deposits. It may cause problems in a humid environment because the salt will absorb moisture and cause problems shorting across the contacts.
