Does anyone know if there is a cell phone company in the United States or Korea that offers a prepay minute service and offers a US phone number with this service? I also need to know where I could purchase the phone in America if possible and how much? Confused

Any company with global roaming.... but you won't like the prices.
$2.50-$3 per MINUTE of talk time. the phones are cheap by comparison.

There are plenty of companies in the US that offered prepaid services.

Since you can't write, I assume you mean a prepaid service within Korea. Korean companies will offer that. You can get your US phone calls forwarded to your Korean number.

Why don't you explain what you're trying to do, first? There are other much cheaper options, but you specified prepaid mobile phones. Vonage and other VOIP products are good options and you can also forward the calls to your mobile.

I assumed, in spite of the convoluted request, that he wanted to buy a phone in the states, put in on a prepaid service and use it in Korea.

If that was the case, asked and answered but as was mentioned, there are many better options

AND

any phone you / he buys in the US can only be used with global roaming within Korea. Korean phones only work in the states as global roaming phones.

Call forwarding from the states (US number) to Korea (Korean cell) is better done VOIP and is MUCH cheaper.

I think the OP truly has no idea of the phone and/or wireless options available once you leave the US. North America is truly technologically impaired when it comes to wireless anything service.

The only one that seems to understand is ttompatz. By the way Korea could offer this service to. In short, I should wait to buy a cell phone in Korea? How could I make it possible for someone in the US to dial an US number to reach me if I do not have an land line in the US to transfer the cell number to.

I think what you're wanting is to be able to have people call you and not have to pay international rates, right? Sorry, but your idea just isn't going to work. Better to bite the bullet and use Skype.

You want a US number but WHERE ON EARTH will you be using the phone? In Korea? In the States? Traveling between the 2 so service in both countries? Do you need service in other countries as well?

Any /all of the large cell phone companies in the states will offer the service you request (US number and usable in Korea or other countries).
The company you choose will depend on your geographic area.
The service is called global roaming.

Or did you mean just a prepaid cell phone service for use within the US and with a US number?

Good attitude there dude. You're gonna go a long way with it when you get abroad.

Skype uses VOIP so you can make cheap phone calls. Definitely worth your while to check skype out.

Skype is a VOIP (voice over internet protocol) long distance service.

It connects a US number or US based computer to an overseas number or computer. It uses the internet for the signal transfer. It is cheap or free depending on the services on the sending or receiving end.

computer to computer = free.
computer to phone = cheap (~2 cents per minute).
phone to computer = cheap (~2 cents per min).
phone to phone = not as cheap but still affordable (~5 cents).

You can also get voip phones (instead of a headset plugged into your computer) that plug into your computer / internet line here but you have a US based phone number. These are also very affordable.
