I would argue some of the people who get rich selling their shares will do just that.

No doubt they will. I just see $75 billion and wonder how it could be more directly targeted to doing something more useful. Ummm, maybe the feeling I'm trying to get my finger on is 'missed opportunity'.

McCain's wife, whose family owns a Budweiser distribution company, is set to make some serious dough off of this deal, to the tune of 17 million. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't matter. But when a presidential candidate stands to gain financially off the sale of an American firm to a foreign firm, then questions are going to be asked. A candidate as embedded with lobbyists as his campaign is can ill afford to be seen as 'selling out' American interests, such as beer, to foreigners.

What's wrong with $75 billion making the bud company a more productive company?

InBev thought that buying Anheuser-Busch was a project well worth taking. InBev thought it could provide higher shareholder value than the current management at A-B. Should InBev be right, they will add more value and wealth to Anheuser-Busch which means cheaper beer, more employment and a larger economic pie. Everyone wins, provided InBev's risk was worth taking.

And if they fail, lots of americans who sold their stock still have their profits and half a dozen smaller breweries will add staff to make up the slack.

Here here.
