my isp is megapass.

recently my comp died so I pulled an old comp
out of the closet and loaded xp.

now, whenever I turn on my comp and
click on internet explorer,
the first thing that happens is I get
redirected to megapass's home page.

is it because I have not loaded xp3 or ie7?

I tried firefox but the same thing happened.

I've been searching for a week now and
tried a lot of different programs but no luck.

have you experienced the same?

it is their home page or their password page?

If it is their home page, change the default in your internet options.

IF it is their password page, call your rep, dial 100 on your phone.

Just go to your 'options' (Firefox) or 'internet options' (IE7) and change the homepage to one that you like. The Megapass DNS server directs you to the Megapass website by default if there isn't anything set.

I'm guessing you can surf away from the Megapass site, right? You're not stuck there permanently?

I see that I made an error: what I meant was I had not loaded Sp3 (service pack three).

I have my homepage set for google.com but I also have ccleaner running on my comp and I have a habit of running it twice a day.

I do this because of spy and malware and viruses I have had in the past.

whenever I start IE I get redirected to the megapass homepage then I click home and end up at google.co.kr and then I click google in English.

this redirect only started happening when I pulled out this old piece of crap pentium 3 and loaded xp.

should I load sp3 and IE7?

When you run ccleaner it probably erases your homepage settings. It also erases all of your cookies, history, and whatnot. So whenever you start your browser it acts like the first time it's been started. Try not running ccleaner for a day and see what happens.

I did not run ccleaner for a day and still the same problem whenever I turn on my computer.

the strange thing is my last comp did not do this even though I ran ccleaner twice a day.

unfortunately, the motherboard fried last week.

next week I will get a new comp but I'm using this piece of crap until then.

this problem is nothing more than a little annoyance.

I just can't fathom what causes your startup page (i.e. Google) to get redirected to Megapass whenever you load your browser. I have megapass myself, and I've never seen the homepage at startup. Maybe you have some piece of security software from KT installed that is hijacking your browser.

If you're really worried about viruses and such try using 'hijack this' software. It's free and easy to find. BUT DON'T START DELETING STUFF!

After you run the program, run the text file it generates through this website:

http://www.hijackthis.de/

Look for any red 'X's and warnings. I bet that you have a 'browser helper object' (BHO) from KT doing this to your webbrowsing. Try it out and good luck.
