| I have an open class today from 3:30pm to 4:00pm. My co-teacher just told me that somebody from SBS will be here filming me. Man I didn't even shave today...I think I'm gonna be sick. Wish me luck guys. |

They always do this kind of thing- tell you about important events at the last minute.
At my first public school we had picture day. The female teachers wore nice dresses and the men wore suits and ties. I didn't wear anything special because no one told me until we were supposed to go outside for the photo.
This would be anecdotal (sp?) if it weren't for the hundreds of stories like this other posters could write about. |

It's probably not official, not in the contract and not mandatory if you fight it. |

Yea, that can be frustrating and disappointing, but it's not too bad if they are not pulling an attitude that you're wrong and not meeting expectations like is common in hagwon culture. While in public school, they may not tell you about something until the last minute, but they don't seem to use it as a way to challenge you. Korean work culture is very absent minded where you're not told what you need to know and when you are, it's almost always last minute. I never get specific details until the last minute and then those often aren't clear. |

Same thing happened over here with the exception that we were conveniently informed via the Korean IM system about said picture day. Too bad us foreigners hadn't learned enough Korean at that point to know what the message meant. |

The open class went over quite smoothly, thank God for that. I'm so glad it's finally over and done with. I was pretty nervous at first but as soon as I started the lesson I was able to calm down. There were about 30 observers, half were parents and the other half were teachers from my own school (including the principal and vice principal) plus teachers from other schools too. And of course the SBS guy as well.
There was one instance where he was standing in front of a table filming some kids but they were all leaning forward and around him because he was blocking their view. I thought that was pretty funny.
Now I need to prepare a 2 week summer camp by this Friday instead of by next Friday. Any guesses as to why? Yup, the summer camp schedule has been changed and I didn't find out about till yesterday! Gotta love the efficiency of communication at the public school level.  |

Oh-ho! It's sarcastic because you said it was efficient but it's really not!
