Online encyclopedias around the world are increasingly adopting a French name to refer to the South Korean islets of Dokdo rather than the indigenous name, apparently as a result of Japanese lobbying, a non-governmental organization said Tuesday.

Dokdo is Korean territory, but some encyclopedias call them the Liancourt Rocks, named

"While Korea was stressing its sovereignty over Dokdo, Japan has intensively lobbied the world to promote 'Liancourt Rocks' and 'Takeshima,'" said Park Ki-tae, representative of the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea, also known by its acronym VANK.

Does VANK ever have get-togethers or association meetings or whatever? It would be interesting to get a gander at the losers all piled together in one place.

I probably shouldn't go, however. I'm sure one of the goofs would make some stupid comment at me, then I'd make one back, and things would quickly degenerate.

Their membership could include 32-year-old Korean Canadian librarians.
