My damn AC is broken...need to get it fixed first thing tomorrow. And I just woke up itching...the worst thing about Seoul is the summer humidity and the mosquitoes. Having lived in a dry climate for most of my life, I can't stand this summer heat and the mosquitoes. October can't come quickly enough. |

Avon's Skin-So-Soft was always good for warding off skeeters. Noxema or Vick's vapor rub might shoo them off too? Actually, all the garlic in the kimchi should do the trick.
Man that one bug sure can be annoying...One little mosquito slipped thru a hole in your screen may have come seven miles at the smell of your blood! That's how far away they can sense it.

Many of these chemical cues are created by the bacteria that cover our bodies. Studies have shown that fewer mosquitoes attack a person after they have taken a shower. If the person showers with anti-bacterial soap, the number drops even further.

Take a hot shower, don't dry off, but go lay down and try to fall asleep in the puddle from the shower. After a while you won't know if the puddle is from drip drying or your own sweat, but if you doze off you won't mind either way. |

The worst is when you'd get the bites on the joints on your hands and feet. I'd never been in that much pain from bug bites before. Then again, Southern Oregon isn't exactly known for its humidity (next to none) nor mosquitoes. It'll pass, you just gotta roll with it and not let it get you down...
and sleep with as many fans turned on as possible. Sure, you might die, but its worth it ;p |

Mom's right - skin-so-soft works pretty well. Also, if you eat the heads from a couple of matches, they won't come anywhere near you. Old army trick. Just DON'T eat more than two - three if you're a big fella. |

Fans going full bore help to keep the mozzies off. It's quite satisfying laying on the couch watching TV while a mozzer keeps trying to get on me and suck my blood, but repeatedly gets blown away by the fan.
I sleep with a thin blanket covering me up to my lower chest, then a fan blowing over my upper chest and face. Not saying I haven't been bitten at night, but only a couple of times. |

Buy yourself a bamboo summer mattress - probably costs 40,000. Looks uncomfortable but actually it allows air to pass so that any sweat, etc. doesn't stick to your body.
I used mine last night for the first time and I slept like a baby. |

I think they used to call those "bamboo wives" as well. Conjures up a great image. |

I can't sleep because if I close the window I don't get the nice breeze, but if I open the window I have to listen to drunks yelling at each other into the wee hours of the morning. My place is basically sound proof, but only if the window is closed. sigh. |

Yea, I know, but melatonin is helping out. Get that if you can.
This is not the land of the morning calm! LMAO! I have lots of construction all around me as my local area is developing at best and they start their engines at 6AM! Beep! beep! beep! rumble, rattle, and roll. Then the thousands of birds go nuts so quiet is only to be found from 2am to 6am and then weird people are still out in the parking lot screaming as late as 3AM. Police drive around each night with their cherries, but don't do anything. I take it that people don't take the police seriously like they would in a western country so don't even talk to them unless they want to talk to you. The late afternoon/early evening was always the most quiet when I had time off to just chill. Of course, this is no healthy way to catch up on some zzzz's. I just took my meletonin pill last night at 10pm and was out before 11, but still woke up at 6, laid there for another hour tossing and turning and then got up. I feel much better today to have gotten 7 to 8 hours of rest.
I tried to get sleeping pills last year here and scored only 3. Yes 3. LOL It's better to not be dependent on them anyhow as the side effect of taking them is that you forget many of your memories and even have a groggy hangover like feeling the next day. |

I slept through the whole night last night with the help of nyquil. I've been waking up either with bites and sweat or freezing and dried throat/nose. I couldn't take it anymore so I shut the windows, turned off the a/c and drugged myself. It was the best sleep since June. |

I've become a master at swating them in my sleep when I hear them buzz past my ear. Woke up the other morning with five mosquito bodies in my inner palm! |

For over-the-counter sleeping pills ask for "Ah-ron" at the pharmacy. They work like Ambien! Knock them back with a few gin and tonics and good night-nighty.
p.s. they are non-addictive. |

It's called Ah-ron; sorry don't have Hangul right now. It comes in a box, of maybe about 20 pills? Take one before you go to bed. I'm petite, so I have to be in bed a few minutes after or else I'm screwed up and googlie-eyed. I don't remember the cost, but it's between 3,000-7,000 won. Pretty cheap.
